SERIES HISTORY
• Babson and MIT will meet for the 41st time on Wednesday evening in a series that dates back to 1988.
• The Beavers own a 35-5 record all-time against the Engineers. Two of the Engineer victories have come in the last seven meetings (2015 and 2018).
• The Green and White are 9-0 against MIT in the post-season, including the final year of the New 8 Conference (1998). Babson defeated the Engineers in the quarterfinals in 1998, 1999, 2005, 2006 and 2013, and in the semifinals in 2008, 2010, 2011, and 2016.
LAST MEETING
• Junior Erin Jayne matched her career high with five goals, including the tying score with 30 seconds remaining in regulation and the game-winner 37 seconds into overtime, both assisted by senior Courtney Kaskey, as Babson edged MIT, 17-16, back on March 26 at Jack Barry Field in Cambridge.
• Jayne added an assist to equal her then career-best with six points, while Kaskey and junior Anna Katherine Sypniewski also reached career highs, Kaskey with six points on four goals and two assists and Sypniewski with four goals. Fellow junior Claudia Dodge chipped in with three goals, one assist, three draw controls and a career-high six caused turnovers and first-year Clare Connolly collected seven draw controls.
• MIT had a balanced scoring attack as junior Lindsey Gambino and first-year Sydney Pyon tallied three goals and two assists apiece, first-year Julianne Flusche recorded three goals and one assist, sophomore Meredith Arterburn scored three times, junior Delaney Goetz produced two goals and three assists, and junior Ellie Rabenold finished with two goals and one assist..
SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Second-seeded Babson (12-5, 8-1 NEWMAC) brings a seven-game winning streak into Wednesday's contest, including a 23-8 victory over Smith in the regular season finale last Wednesday at MacDowell Field.
• Jayne scored four goals and posted career-highs of seven assists and 11 points and 10 different players scored goals in the win over Smith. Kaskey contributed five goals and one assist to the victory, while Dodge added four goals, four caused turnovers and a career-high 12 draw controls.
• Jayne (47-34-81) leads the NEWMAC in points and is third in both goals and assists, while Dodge (36-15-51) ranks in the top 10 in assists, points, ground balls (45) and caused turnovers (32).
• Kaskey (42-9-51) is eighth in the NEWMAC in goals and points and Connolly is fourth in draw controls (82). First-year Kathleen Murphy (9.79 GAA, .406 sv. pct.) is third in the league in goals against average.
SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS
• Third-seeded MIT (12-4, 8-1 NEWMAC) is riding a nine-game winning streak after posting a 25-4 victory over Smith in a NEWMAC quarterfinal game on Saturday.
• Junior Emma Tauckus tallied a career-high seven goals and one assist to go along with four groundballs for the Engineers. Rabenold totaled six goals and an assist and Gambino finished with four goals and one assist. Arterburn tallied four assists, six draw controls, three groundballs, and two caused turnovers, and senior Elena Boal collected seven saves in goal for MIT.
• Rabenold (48-17-65) and Gambino (48-10-58) are tied for the NEWMAC lead in goals scored, and Goetz (6-37-43) is second in the league in assists. Rabenold has grabbed a team-high 58 draw controls, Pyon (16) and sophomore Grace Harrington (15) have combined for 31 caused turnovers, and Flusche (29) and Pyon (29) have combined for 60 ground balls.
• Boal (.511 sv. pct., 7.65 GAA) leads the NEWMAC in save percentage and goals against average in eight starts, while senior Kiely Smiga-McManus (.339, 13.31) has started seven games between the pipes.
MATCHING UP AGAINST THE NEWMAC
• MIT (16.69) and Babson (15.00) are 1-2 in the conference in goals per game, while the Engineers (9.31) and Beavers (9.79) are third and fourth in goals against average.
• MIT (54.0) and Babson (52.4) are also 1-2 in the NEWMAC in shooting percentage.
NEWMAC CHAMPS
• Babson, MIT and Springfield shared the 2022 NEWMAC regular season crown, all with 8-1 conference records.
• The Beavers and Pride have each won or shared nine regular season titles since 1998, while MIT has captured two co-championships.
• The Green and White won five straight NEWMAC Tournament titles from 2007-2011 and added championships in 2017, 2018 and 2021 for a total of eight crowns. Springfield captured tournament banners in 2002, 2005, 2006, 2012, 2013, 2016, and 2019 for a total of seven, and MIT won its only title in 2015.
WEEKLY HONORS
• Jayne was named NEWMAC Offensive Athlete of the Week on Monday, her second conference weekly honor this season.
• Dodge earned the NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week award three times this spring.
CLIMBING THE CHARTS
• Jayne's 81 points rank fifth in Babson single-season history and her 34 assists are tied for fourth with Trisha Babson '12 (2010) and Lexi Lenaghan '19 (2019).
• Dodge's 32 CTs are the most at Babson since Delaney Carroll recorded 40 in 2017 and tied for the eighth highest total in single-season program history.
THE BEAVERS AT HOME
• Babson brings a 6-3 home record into Wednesday's game, with all three losses coming to nationally-ranked teams (Middlebury, Ithaca, and Wesleyan, which are ranked 1st, 10th and 11th in this week's national poll).
• The Beavers won their last four conference home games by a combined score of 84-15.
• The Green and White are 17-3 in playoff games at MacDowell Field going back to 2004.
BEAVER STREAKS
• Jayne has recorded at least one point in all 27 of her games dating back to the start of her career in February of 2020.
• Jayne and Dodge have scored at least one goal in 12 straight games this spring, while Kaskey has scored at least once in 10 in a row.
NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Green and White are 49-6 in games against the NEWMAC going back to 2016, going 24-3 at home and 25-3 on the road.
• Babson has won 24 in a row, including nine this year, when holding the opponent to 10 goals or fewer, and are 34-1 since the start of 2018.
• The Beavers have won their last 36 games when leading at halftime, including 11 this year, and are 39-1 when ahead at the break dating back to 2018.
UP NEXT
• The winner of Wednesday's semifinal game will advance to the championship game against the winner of the other semifinal which features fourth-seeded Coast Guard at top-seeded Springfield. The highest remaining seed will host the title game on Saturday.
