Women's Lacrosse Runs Away from Emerson, 20-3

Beavers Open Game with 11 Straight Goals, Extend Winning Streak to Five

BOSTON—Junior Anna Katherine Sypniewski (Vero Beach, Fla.) scored a career-high seven goals to help visiting Babson College defeat Emerson College, 20-3, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse action on Wednesday night at Rotch Field.

Babson, which has won a season-high five consecutive games, improves to 10-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play, while Emerson slips to 9-5 overall and 3-4 in the NEWMAC with the loss.

Senior Courtney Kaskey (Winnetka, Ill.) scored four times, junior Erin Jayne (Merrimac, Mass.) finished with two goals and three assists and first-year Clare Connolly (Hanover, Mass.) chipped in with two goals and five draw controls for the Beavers. Junior Claudia Dodge (Pelham, N.Y.) also won five draws, Eileen Manning (Needham, Mass.) recorded a season-high four caused turnovers and first-year Kathleen Murphy (Scarborough, Maine) made six saves in the win.

Sophomore Lauren Longstreet (Alamo, Calif.) had a goal and an assist and junior Nina Khosla (La Jolla, Calif.) finished with 13 saves for the Lions.

The Green and White opened the game with an 11-0 run and got to running time in the second quarter for the third time in the last four contests. Kaskey, Sypniewski and Jayne all scored twice, while senior Brooke Leveillee (Longmeadow, Mass.) and first-year Amelia Novitch (Dover, Mass.) chipped in with first-quarter tallies to build an 8-0 advantage.

Dodge capped the 11-goal run with 11:47 to go in the second before Longstreet got Emerson on the board, but Kaskey followed with her fourth tally of the night and Sypniewski scored twice over the final 5:34 of the period to give the Beavers a 14-1 lead at the break.

Connolly and Sypniewski both scored twice in the second half as the Babson closed the game with five unanswered goals. First-year Kathryn Blake (Medfield, Mass.) scored her first of the game with 11:34 left and classmate Jessica Evans (Southbury, Conn.) put away a free-position chance with 6:39 remaining for the final margin.

The Beavers attempted 30 of their season-high 42 shots in the first half and finished with a 19-8 edge in draw controls.

Both teams return to action at 12 p.m. on Saturday as Babson travels to Coast Guard, while Emerson visits Smith.

GAME NOTES
• The Beavers are 6-1 all-time against Emerson.
• Babson has now scored 20 or more goals in three straight games for the first time in program history.
• Jayne, who extended her points streak to 25 games, and Dodge have each scored at least one goal in 10 straight contests.
• During its current five-game winning streak, Babson has outscored opponents 38-2 in the first quarter.
