Game Preview: Women's Lacrosse at Springfield

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 20-19 all-time against Springfield in a series that dates back to 1997.
• The Beavers have won five of the last seven games between the teams dating back to the 2017 NEWMAC Tournament final.
• Seven of the last 10 contests between Babson and the Pride have been decided by two goals or less.
• The teams have played faced off against each other in five consecutive conference championship games going back to 2016.

LAST MEETING
• Junior Erin Jayne finished with five goals, Sara O'Connor '21 scored four times and Georgia Salvatore '21 and junior Claudia Dodge added three goals apiece to help Babson defeat the Pride, 22-4, in the NEWMAC Tournament final on May 1, 2021, in Springfield, Mass.
Valerie Quinlan '20 M'21 dished out three assists and recorded a career-high 12 draw controls for the Beavers, who ripped off a 16-goal run that spanned both halves in the dominating victory.
• Kate Sarnacki finished with two goals, two assists and four caused turnovers to lead Springfield.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (2-2, 0-0 NEWMAC) has dropped its last two games after suffering a 16-14 loss to No. 3 Ithaca on Wednesday.
• Dodge scored a career-high five goals to go along with six ground balls and three caused turnovers, while Jayne chipped in with two goals, three assists and three caused turnovers for the Beavers, who matched their season high with six free-position tallies.
• Jayne (10-8-18) has produced at least five points in three of her first four outings, Dodge (8-3-11) leads the team with 13 ground balls and eight caused turnovers, and first-year Amelia Novitch (8-0-8) has at least one goal in every contest.
• First-years Michaela Downer (13) and Clare Connolly (12) have combined for 25 draw controls, while classmate Kathleen Murphy owns an 11.75 goals against average and a .390 save percentage in four starts.

SCOUTING THE PRIDE
• Springfield (2-2, 0-0 NEWMAC) has dropped two straight games and is coming off a 20-7 loss at Endicott last Saturday.
• Senior Taylor Pichel finished with four goals and one assist and classmate Katie Martel scored three times for the Pride, which trailed 6-5 at halftime before allowing a nine-goal run to begin the second half.
• Pichel has recorded four straight multi-goal games, Martel (9-0-9) has a pair of three-goal performances and junior Arielle Johnson (1-7-8) has dished out nearly half of the team's assists this spring.
• Junior Gianna Scialdone leads the squad in ground balls (17), draw controls (17) and caused turnover (6), classmate Allison Delmonte has contributed 16 draw controls and 10 ground balls, and sophomore Haley Moony has posted a 14.00 goals against average and a .411 save percentage in four starts.

FREE POSITION EFFICIENCY
• Babson enters Saturday's conference opener ranked third in Division III converting 70.8 percent of its free position chances.
• The Beavers went 6-of-8 against Ithaca and are now 17-of-24 as a team over their first four contests.
• Dodge is 8-of-10 on free-position chances and ranks fourth nationally averaging 2.00 free-position goals per game.

STRONG PERFORMANCES AGAINST THE BOMBERS
• In addition to Dodge finishing with a career-high seven points, Downer and fellow rookie Cameron Rabenold came off the bench to give the Beavers a lift in Wednesday's loss.
• Downer secured a season-high eight draw controls, while Rabenold scored twice and dished out two assists for four points in her collegiate debut.

SUCCESS VERSUS THE NEWMAC
• Babson has won 12 of its last 13 road games against conference foes dating back to 2017, which includes NEWMAC Tournament victories at Coast Guard and Springfield last spring.
• Overall, the Green and White is 40-5 versus league opponents and has not lost more than a single game in any season, including the league playoffs, dating back to 2016.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• Since the start of 2019, Babson is 20-2 when scoring at least 12 goals. Its only losses during this stretch came on Wednesday versus Ithaca and in a 14-13 OT setback in the 2021 season opener at Springfield.
• The Beavers recorded an assist on all eight of their goals in the run of play against Ithaca.
• Babson has outscored its opponents 13-5 in the first half of its two wins.
