Game Preview: Women's Lacrosse at Skidmore

Women's Lacrosse at Skidmore
Sunday, February 27 | 2 p.m.
Wachenheim Field | Saratoga Springs, N.Y.

SERIES HISTORY
• Babson is 3-4 all-time against Skidmore in a series that dates back to 200.
• The Beavers snapped a three-game skid with a victory at home in 2020.
• The teams had three consecutive one-goal finishes between 2015-17.

LAST MEETING
• Junior Erin Jayne scored four times and Valerie Quinlan '20 M'21 added three goals and a game-high seven draw controls to help the Beavers defeat Skidmore, 13-7, on February 22, 2020, in Babson Park.
Georgia Salvatore '21 and Juliana McGuire '21 each scored twice for the Beavers, who used a four-goal run over an 11-minute stretch that spanned both halves to create separation.
• Amanda Orvis had two goals and Charlotte Cass scooped up six ground balls and led all players with four caused turnovers for the Thoroughbreds.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
• Babson (0-0) returns five starters and 14 players in all from a team that finished 4-2 after winning a NEWMAC Tournament title and reaching the NCAA Tournament last spring.
• Jayne finished second on the team in scoring in 2021 with 13 goals and six assists for 19 points, fellow junior Claudia Dodge produced 12 goals and three assists for 15 points, and junior Courtney Kaskey scored seven goals to go along with 10 ground balls and nine draw controls.
• Seniors Gwen Borning (8 GB) and Brooke Leveillee (6 GB, 3 CT) and all-conference and all-region sophomore Kayleigh Hacker (11 CT) all are back on defense in front of first-year goalie Kathleen Murphy.

SCOUTING THE THOROUGHBREDS
• Skidmore (0-0) brings back 18 players from a team that went 2-4 in an abbreviated 2021 season.
• Amelia Bassett (19-5-24) recorded six multi-goal games, Maddy Marr (7-12-19) led the team in assists, and the duo of Avery Geddes (13-3-16) and Gabriella Modesti (10-5-15) combined for 23 goals last spring.
• Cass registered a team-high 10 caused turnovers, Ella Harris won 20 draw controls and Phoebe Beshlian started all six games posting a 13.51 goals against average and a .376 save percentage.

BEAVERS PICKED TO REPEAT IN NEWMAC
• Babson picked up six of a possible 10 first-place votes and finished atop the NEWMAC preseason coaches' poll earlier this month.
• The Beavers have gone 32-3 in the regular season against league foes since 2016 while winning three NEWMAC Tournament championships (2016, 2017, 2021).

LIMITED GAMES, PLENTY OF POINTS
• Despite playing just 10 games over the last two seasons due to COVID-19, Jayne has 26 goals and 14 assists for 40 points.
• She has produced seven multi-goal games, has scored at least once in nine contests and has registered four or more points five times.

FAMILIAR FACES ACROSS THE WAY
• First-year Babson assistant coach Grace Connerty graduated from Skidmore last May and will be going against many of her former teammates in her first game as an assistant coach on Sunday.
• Connerty scored nine goals and tied for second on the Thoroughbreds with 13 draw controls despite playing just three games as a senior in 2021.

NUMBERS TO KNOW
• The Beavers have won their last 24 games when scoring 14 or more goals, a streak that extends back to April 14, 2018.
• Babson is 5-1 in season openers going back to 2016.
• The Beavers have allowed 10 goals or less in each of their last eight victories going back to 2019.

UP NEXT
• The Beavers welcome No. 17 Wesleyan to MacDowell Field to begin a four-game homestand on March 9.
