NORTHBOROUGH, Mass.—Senior Nicholas Browne (Mount Laurel, N.J.) hit a grand slam and four other players drove in a run to help No. 12/8 Babson College edge WPI, 8-6, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball action on Tuesday afternoon at the New England Baseball Complex.

Babson, which matched a school record with its 14th consecutive victory, improved to 15-2 overall and 6-0 in league play, while WPI dips to 16-6 overall and 2-2 in the NEWMAC.

Junior Alex DiMartino (Mahwah, N.J.) and first-year Thomas Lapham (Charlestown, Mass.) both had two hits and an RBI, while junior Jake Oliger (Newtown, Conn.) singled twice to record his hitting streak to 19 games for the Beavers. Senior Edward Lehr (Byram Township, N.J.) and junior Matthew Valente (Wyckoff, N.J.) each added an RBI in the win.

Sophomore Jordy Allard (Woodstock, Vt.) beat the Engineers for the second time in eight days and moved to 4-0 on the year after striking out five and giving up four runs in 5.2 innings. Junior William Gallagher (Kingston, Mass.) and sophomore Henry Leake (Burbank, Calif.) fanned three and did not allow a baserunner in 2.1 innings of relief.

Senior Ryan Tropeano (Pembroke, Mass.) went 4-for-5 with two RBI and junior David Larson (Port Tobacco, Md.) homered and drove in a pair of runs as part of a two-hit day for WPI. First-year Martin McCormack (Quincy, Mass.) also went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in support of classmate Alexander Mondro (Westford, Mass.), who fell to 2-2 after giving up five runs on six hits over 6.0 innings.

Valente drew a bases loaded walk and Browne followed with the first grand slam of his career to give the Green and White a 5-0 lead in the top of the second. Tropeano got the Engineers on the board with an RBI single in the third, Larson led off the fourth with a solo shot to right center, and then capped a two-run fifth with an RBI double to cut the Babson lead to 5-4.

The Beavers took advantage of a pair of errors to make it 6-4 in the seventh and scored twice with two outs in the eighth as DiMartino drove in Valente with a double and scored on Lapham's opposite field single two batters later for a four-run cushion. The Engineers would not go quietly in the ninth cutting their deficit in half on RBI singles by Tropeano and graduate student Matt Howard (Worcester, Mass.) before Babson senior Max Tannenbaum (Coral Springs, Fla.) closed the door with a pop up and a lineout with the tying runs on base.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. as Babson plays the fifth of five straight games on the road at Roger Williams, while WPI visits Amherst.
