Game Preview: Baseball at UMass Dartmouth

THE SERIES
Babson and UMass Dartmouth will meet for the 35th time on Monday afternoon in a series that dates back to 1976. The Beavers are 13-21 all-time against the Corsairs but have won seven of the last 10 games between the teams since 2005.

LAST MEETING
Senior Jack Halpin doubled, homered and drove in three runs as the Beavers edged UMass Dartmouth, 11-10, on April 11, 2016, in Babson Park. Senior Mark Webber homered and scored twice, while junior Connor Gill went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI for the Green and White, which built a four-run lead in the seventh inning. DeVon King and Ervin Kantardzic both had three hits for the Corsairs.

LAST UMASS DARTMOUTH WIN
Cory DeMedeiros homered and George Agostini went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI as UMass Dartmouth defeated Babson, 7-4, on April 13, 2015, in New Bedford. Senior David Lennon drove in a pair of runs and Owen Shea '17 scored twice for the Beavers, who took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fourth.

SCOUTING THE CORSAIRS
UMass Dartmouth (11-7) has dropped four of its last five games after falling 8-3 in 10 innings and 2-1 to Southern Maine on Saturday. Sophomore Mike Knell hit a solo homer and classmate Ryan Bruning fanned four in a complete-game effort for the Corsairs, who struck out 14 times in the loss. Sophomore Nate Tellier is batting .390 with nine extra-base hits and 16 runs batted in, classmate Mitch Baker is hitting .349 with four doubles, a homer and 15 runs scored, and senior Kenny Michael checks in at .286 with 10 doubles and 10 walks on the year. Seven different pitchers have picked up a win on the year for UMass Dartmouth, which boasts a 3.02 team ERA to go along with 171 strikeouts in 155.0 innings.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Babson (16-7) has won nine straight games after rallying to edge Wheaton, 8-7, on Sunday. Junior Nicholas Browne hit a two-run homer and senior Ryan Arena hit a three-run walk-off blast as the Beavers erased a seven-run deficit to stay unbeaten at home. Sophomore Sean Harrington is batting .371 with nine extra-base hits and 20 runs batted in, Arena is hitting .363 with nine doubles, six homers and 27 RBI, and Lennon checks in at .359 with six doubles and seven runs driven in. Sophomore Michael Nocchi (1-0, 0.71 ERA) and senior Drew Petillo (1-0, 1.04 ERA) have allowed just two earned runs over 21.1 innings for the Green and White, which has a 3.61 team ERA.

IT AIN'T OVER TILL IT'S OVER
After scoring twice in the top of the ninth to take the lead on Saturday and homering twice in the bottom of the ninth on Sunday, the Beavers have now won four times in their final at-bat this season. Browne hit a two-run walk-off homer to edge Baldwin Wallace, 6-5, back on March 4 and junior Eric Jaun capped a four-run ninth to help Babson rally Illinois Wesleyan, 7-6, on March 16.

ROLLING ALONG
Webber extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a pair of knocks on Sunday, while Oliger and Gill stretched their hitting streaks to nine and eight games, respectively. Additionally, Harrington has reached base in 18 straight outings and Lennon has reached in 12 straight.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Beavers are 13-1 this season when allowing five runs or less.
