Game Preview: Baseball vs. Wentworth

THE SERIES
Babson and Wentworth will meet for the 25th time in a series that dates back to 1989 on Thursday afternoon. The Beavers are 20-4 all-time against the Leopards and have won 17 of the last 19 games between the teams.

LAST MEETING
Jake Weiss '17 was 3-for-5 with three runs scored as the Beavers defeated Wentworth, 14-4, on April 27, 2017, in Babson Park. Seniors Ryan Arena and David Lennon, junior Connor Gill and Jack Halpin '17 all doubled and drove in a pair of runs to help pace the Beavers' 14-hit attack. Jordan Burst and Jimy Temte each had two hits apiece to lead the Leopards.

LAST WENTWORTH WIN
Senior Tim Elrick went 3-for-4 with two RBI and classmate Tyler Weninger doubled and drove in a pair of runs as the Leoperds defeated Babson, 5-4, on April 15, 2015, in Babson Park. Sean MacPhee '15 went 2-for-4 with and an RBI, while senior Owen Shea and Dillon Gonzalez '15 both doubled for the Beavers, who left the tying run on second base in the bottom of the ninth.

SCOUTING THE LEOPARDS
Wentworth (10-13) has won three straight games after sweeping Western New England with back-to-back 6-5 victories on Sunday. Junior Andrew Elliot went 2-for-4 with two RBI And Elrick had two hits and scored three times for the Leopards, who scored three runs in the final at-bat of both games against the Golden Bears. Elrick is batting .365 with two extra-base hits and 17 runs batted in, Elliot is hitting .312 with seven doubles and 16 RBI, and senior Tyler Weninger enters the day with a .303 average to go along with 10 extra-base hits and 18 runs driven in. Sophomore Caleb Eaton is 1-0 with one save and a 2.92 ERA in eight relief appearances for Wentworth, which has a 5.34 team earned run average.

SCOUTING THE BEAVERS
Babson (25-10) has won four straight games after routing Keene State, 16-1, on Sunday. Arena was 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI, while junior Nicholas Browne and sophomores Jake Oliger and Matthew Valente all had two hits and drove in a pair of runs for the Beavers. Classmate Sean Harrington is batting .349 with nine extra-base hits, 23 RBI and 24 walks, Oliger is hitting .346 with six doubles, two homers and 29 RBI, and junior Brian McHale checks in at .341 with 18 extra-base hits, 21 runs driven in and 33 runs scored. Gill and junior Michael Genaro have combined to go 11-2 with a 2.45 ERA and 61 strikeouts against just 11 walks in 95.2 innings.

MOVING UP THE CHARTS
Arena, who is tied for the team lead in doubles (12), hit his eighth home run of the season and the 22nd of his career at Keene State on Saturday. He is now tied with Chris Kucher '13 for the second highest home run total in program history, and has also moved into 13th place on Babson's all-time list with 28 doubles.

TWO AT A TIME
The Green and White has smacked 83 doubles in its first 35 outings and enters Tuesday's game just one shy of the program's single-season record of 84 set back in 1998. Babson has 10 players in its lineup with at least six two-baggers this spring.

MARK YOUR CALENDARS
The Beavers wrapped up their second consecutive NEWMAC regular season title, and their first outright crown since 2008, with the three-game sweep of Emerson. Babson will host the league's double-elimination tournament from May 4-6 at Govoni Field.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
The Beavers are 14-3 this season when scoring a first-inning run.
