NEW LONDON, Conn.—Sophomore Teddy Carey (Upton, Mass.) tossed seven solid innings and junior Jack Halpin (Glastonbury, Conn.) produced a three-run double as part of a four-run ninth inning to help visiting Babson College defeat the Coast Guard Academy, 6-1, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) baseball action on Wednesday afternoon.

With its third win in the last four games, Babson is now 17-12-1 overall and 7-7 in conference play, while Coast Guard slips to 14-18 overall and 6-8 in the NEWMAC.

Halpin went 3-for-5 with a pair of doubles, while junior Owen Shea (Northborough, Mass.) and sophomore Mark Webber (Norwell, Mass.) both drove in a run for the Beavers. Carey (2-2) allowed just one earned run on four hits while striking out six for the Green and White, which picked up its first road win of the year.

Sophomore Zach Serna (Palatine, Ill.) and first-year Will Stephens (Raleigh, N.C.) both had two hits for the Bears, who used five different pitchers on the day.

Shea broke the scoreless deadlock in the top of the fourth with his RBI single to left to give Babson a 1-0 lead. Coast Guard pulled even in the last of the sixth as Stephens singled with one out and then scored on junior Kyle Jackson's (Lincoln, R.I.) triple to right, only to see the Beavers go back in front on first-year Connor Gill's (Sterling, Mass.) two-out single to drive in junior Jake Weiss (Irvine, Calif.).

Carey was perfect in the seventh and junior Graham Stack (Arlington, Mass.) worked around a single in the eighth before the Green and White broke the game open with four two-out runs in the ninth. Shea walked, junior Kevin Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.) was hit by a pitch and sophomore Adam Ayala (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) reached on an infield single to load the bases. Halpin came through with a bases-clearing double to make it 5-1, and then scored on Webber's base hit.

Sophomore Matt Cuneo (Ashland, Mass.) struck out the first two batters he faced in the bottom of the frame and then sealed the win with an infield pop-up.

Babson returns to action on Thursday when it heads north to take on 16th-ranked Southern Maine at 3:30 p.m., while Coast Guard opens a three-game series with Clark in Worcester on Friday at 3:30 p.m.

• The Beavers are now 54-22 all-time against Coast Guard and have swept the regular-season series in three of the last four seasons.
