Seven-Run Seventh Pushes Baseball Past Keene State, 7-4

Box Score

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Sophomore Mark Webber (Norwell, Mass.) produced a two-run double and later came across as the go-ahead run as Babson College scored seven times with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to rally past visiting Keene State College, 7-4, in non-conference baseball action on Thursday afternoon at Govoni Field.

With its fifth win in the last six games, Babson is now 7-3-1 on the year, while Keene State falls to 7-6 overall.

First-year Edward Lehr (Byram Township, N.J.) went 1-for-4 with two RBI, while sophomore Adam Ayala (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) recorded the Beavers' first hit of the game with two outs in the seventh for the Beavers. Junior Jack Halpin (Glastonbury, Conn.) walked three times and scored once.

First-year Devin Springfield (Jaffrey, N.H.) was 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored, while senior Billy Hartmann (Greenland, N.H.) homered and scored twice to lead the Owls.

Hartmann gave Keene State a 1-0 lead with his home run to left to start the third inning. The visitors doubled their advantage on a two-out RBI single by sophomore Kolby Reggione (Pomfret, Conn.) in the sixth, and pushed across two more runs to make it a four-run game in the seventh.

Despite five walks, Owls' junior Michael Crimi (Bethel, Conn.) did not allow a hit prior to Ayala's two-out single to right in the bottom of the seventh got the hosts' rally started. Junior Kevin Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.) reached on an error to put runners on the corners, and first-year Eric Jaun (Loveland, Ohio) followed with an RBI single to get Babson within 4-1.

Murphy scored when Halpin reached on an error, and Webber came through with a two-run triple to right to tie the game at 4-4. Keene State made its third pitching change of the frame, but senior Joe Barry (Stoneham, Mass.) reached on a throwing error while Webber scored to put the Beavers in front 5-4. Lehr came through with a two-run single one batter later in his second plate appearance of the inning to give the hosts a three-run lead.

Babson first-year Connor Gill (Sterling, Mass.), who came on with two on and no outs in the seventh, retired the side in order in the eighth to earn his first collegiate win. Junior Graham Stack (Arlington, Mass.) worked around a walk and an error in the ninth to collect his first save of the spring.

First-year Kyle Waldron (Cheshire, Conn.) allowed two earned runs on five hits while striking out two in six innings for the Beavers. Crimi was even better for the Owls, giving up just one hit while striking out nine over 6.2 innings.

Senior Keith Simpson (Londonderry, N.H.) was tagged with the loss to fall to 1-1 on the year for Keene State, which saw its bullpen give up six runs, all unearned over the final 2.1 innings.

Babson returns to action on Friday when it hosts Framingham State at 3:30 p.m., while the Owls will host Trinity on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
