Box Score WINTER HAVEN, Fla.—Senior Joe Barry (Stoneham, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with two extra-base hits and two RBI, while first-year Michael Genaro (Greenwich, Conn.) tossed seven shutout innings as Babson College defeated Gallaudet University, 10-0, in non-conference baseball action on Thursday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Park.
With its second straight win, Babson is now 4-3 on the year, while Gallaudet slips to 4-15 overall.
Barry had a double and a triple, while junior Owen Shea (Northborough, Mass.) went 2-for-3 with a double and drove in a pair of runs for the Beavers. First-year Connor Gill (Sterling, Mass.) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored, sophomore Mark Webber (Norwell, Mass.) added two hits and junior Jack Halpin (Glastonbury, Conn.) homered in the win.
Genaro, who earned his first collegiate victory in the first start of his career, allowed just four hits and a walk while striking out four over seven innings. He also was the recipient of a pair of double plays and faced just two batters over the minimum through seven. Sophomore John Flogel (Summit, N.J.) worked struck out two and worked a perfect eighth inning for the Green and White.
Gill doubled to lead off the bottom of the first and later scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Kevin Murphy (Pembroke, Mass.). Shea walked with one out in the third and came around to make it 2-0 before Babson broke the game open with a six-run sixth inning. Halpin led off with a homer, Barry plated sophomore Zeke Zabinski (Blue Bell, Pa.) and first-year Eric Jaun (Loveland, Ohio) with a triple, and Gill followed with a two-out RBI single to make it 6-0. Murphy drew a walk and both he and Gill came around on Shea's double that extended the lead to 8-0.
Babson finished off the victory with three straight hits to open the bottom of the eighth inning. Barry doubled and scored on sophomore Adam Ayala's (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) triple, and classmate David Lennon (Windermere, Fla.) brought an end to the game with his RBI single to center field.
The Beavers return to action on Friday when they face Franklin & Marshall at 3:30 p.m., while Gallaudet returns home to take on Hood on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
