Box Score AUBURNDALE, Fla.—Babson College first-year Eric Jaun (Loveland, Ohio) went 3-for-5 with an RBI, but Bates College used a six-run fifth inning to rally for a 9-6 victory over the Beavers in non-conference baseball action on Sunday at Lake Myrtle Park.
With the loss, Babson is now 2-2 on the year, while Bates snapped a three-game skid to move to 4-5.
Junior Owen Shea (Northborough, Mass.) went 2-for-5 with a double, and RBI and a run scored, while sophomore Mark Webber (Norwell, Mass.) was 1-for-3 with two walks and two runs scored for Babson. First-year Connor Gill (Sterling, Mass.) was 1-for-5 and drove in two runs on the day.
Sophomore Brendan Fox (West Hartford, Conn.) went 4-for-6 with two doubles, a triple and four RBI to lead the Bobcats, who got a complete-game effort from fellow sophomore Anthony Telesca (Holtsville, N.Y.). He moved to 2-0 on the year by allowing just three earned runs on eight hits and six walks while striking out nine.
Junior Jack Halpin (Glastonbury, Conn.) led off the bottom of the second with a walk and later scored to give the Green and White a 1-0 lead. The Beavers extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth on a two-out, two-run single by Gill, but Bates responded with six runs on just four hits in the top of the fifth to go in front 6-3. Fox tied the game with a two-run double and scored on an error to go in front before the Bobcats scored twice on passed balls.
Webber doubled to start the sixth and scored on an RBI ground out by junior Jake Weiss (Irvine, Calif.) to help Babson cut its deficit to 6-4. Jaun then made it a one-run game in the seventh with an RBI single that scored Shea, but Bates countered with three runs in the eighth, again sparked by Fox, who plated a pair of runs with his two-out triple.
Sophomore Teddy Carey (Upton, Mass.) took the loss for the Beavers allowing six earned runs on six hits while striking out five over 4.1 innings.
Babson returns to action on Monday when it takes on The College of New Jersey at 3:30 p.m.
