SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Babson College women's lacrosse team edged Springfield College 12-11, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Saturday afternoon. Springfield scored four unanswered goals late in the second half, but the Beavers were able to hold off the Pride for the final six minutes to take the win.  Babson was led by junior Anna Collins (Winchester, Mass.) who scored five goals and added one assist. With the win, the Beavers are now 8-2, 3-0 in the NEWMAC and Springfield has dropped to 7-4, 2-1 in the NEWMAC.

In the first half, the Babson sophomore Alyssa Hood (Newport, R.I.) scored the first goal of the game off an assist from Collins. Teammate Kaitlyn Pettengill (Hopkinton, Mass.) then scored a free-position shot just over a minute later to put the Beavers up 2-0. The two teams then traded goals to eventually bring the score to 4-6 with 13:46 remaining in the half. Babson's Collins and senior tri-captain Jess Parker (Cataumet, Mass.) then each added a goal to bring the Babson lead to four, 8-4 with 5:40 left to play in the half. Springfield's Erin Doolan then answered back at the 4:48 mark and teammate Nicole Soucie scored a free position goal with 25 seconds left to drop the Babson lead to two, 8-6 at the half.

Springfield's Alexandra Bazzano started off the second half with a goal at 28:08 to bring the Pride within one, 8-7. Babson then scored four unanswered goals within a five minute span. Parker scored the first of the rally and Collins then scored three consecutive goals to put the Beavers up, 12-7 with 21:09 left in the game.  From that point on, Springfield held Babson scoreless for the remainder of the game and scored four unanswered goals of their own to bring the Pride to within one, 12-11. Babson's defense was able hold off Springfield for the final six minutes and walked away with the 12-11 win.

For Babson, Collins scored five goals, and added one assist and five groundballs. Senior tri-captain Jackie Godfrey (Franklin, Mass.) followed with five assists, two draw controls, and three caused turnovers.  Pettengill had a team high five caused turnovers and picked up five groundballs while adding two goals and one assist.  First-year Trisha Babson (Duxbury, Mass.) had a game high six draw controls and added one goal in the win. Parker scored two goals and Alyssa Hood and senior tri-captain Lindsay Bucci (Medford Mass.) each added one goal. Sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Macary (Woodbury, Mass.) played all 60 minutes in net for the Beavers making 10 saves.

For Springfield, Erin Doolan and Jenn Zubkus each scored three goals. Alexandra Bazza and Nicole Soucie each scored two while Heather Dobson added one. Nicole Flores had a game high six groundballs. Lauren McAuley went the distance in net for the Pride making eight saves.

Babson returns home on April 14th when they will take on Wellesley College in a NEWMAC contest at 7pm at MacDowell Field. Springfield will visit Mount Holyoke on the same day for a 7pm game.
