April 21, 2007

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Babson College first-year midfielder Kaitlyn Pettengill (Hopkinton, Mass.) scored a game-high six goals and assisted on another score as the Beavers defeated the Springfield College Pride, 15-4, this afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse action at Benedum Field.

With this afternoon's victory, Babson, ranked ninth in the nation by the IWLCA, ends its 2007 NEWMAC regular-season with a perfect 6-0 mark (12-2 overall). The Beavers will be the top seed for the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament and will be awarded a first-round bye. Babson will host the semifinals and finals of the NEWMAC Tournament on Saturday and Sunday, April 28th and 29th.

With SC's loss, the Pride falls to 8-7 overall on the season and 3-3 in conference play. SC has fallen into a three-way tie for the No. 3 seed in the NEWMAC Tournament with Wheaton and MIT, who were both victorious today. Since all three teams are 1-1 against each other on the season, and all other tiebreaking procedures have been exhausted, a coin flip will be executed to determine the three, four and five seeds. Results of the coin flip will come at a later time.

In today's game, Babson College broke out to a 4-1 lead in the first 20 minutes of play and never looked back, leading 8-2 at halftime, while outscoring the Pride by a 7-2 margin in the second stanza. Junior midfielder Anita Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) added two goals and three assists in the win for the Beavers. Senior midfielder Ashley Platt (Centerville, Mass.) and sophomore attack Lindsay Bucci (Medford, Mass.) each contributed with two goals. Senior goalkeeper Jennie Williams (Andover, Mass.) recorded the win in net for Babson, making six saves.

SC first-year goalie Lauren McAulay (Yorktown, N.Y.) kept the Pride in the game throughout most of the first half with an array of saves. The rookie made 13 stops in all, playing just over 42 minutes (42:07). Senior Rachel Lampros (Boxborough, Mass.) paced the SC attack with one goal and one assist, as senior Ashley Martell (Billerica, Mass.), freshman Alexandra Bazzano (Newington, Conn.), and sophomore Heather Dobson (Longmeadow, Mass.) all scored.
