Babson College

Jamie Rice ‘90 has enjoyed great success in his 22 years as head coach at his Alma mater heading into the 2026-27 season. He has guided the program to four ECAC East Tournament championships and the 2022 New England Hockey Conference Tournament title as well as six NCAA Tournament berths, including national quarterfinal appearances in 2007, 2013, 2014 and 2022.

With an overall record of 354-180-51 (.649), Rice ranks 10th among active Division III head coaches in career victories and 14th in career winning percentage. His teams have won at least 17 games on 13 occasions and reached the conference tournament final in 2026 for the 12th time in his career. The Beavers finished in the top 15 in the final US College Hockey Online rankings nine times in the last 12 seasons under Rice.

A four-time conference coach of the year, including the Little East Conference in 2026, and four-time Edward Jeremiah Award finalist, Rice was selected as Division III Coach of the Year by the New England Hockey Journal in 2022 and a regional coach of the year by the New England Hockey Writers Association in 2007, 2014 and 2026.

In his two decades at Babson, Rice has recruited and coached one Division III Player of the Year, 12 All-Americans, three Gridiron Club Joe Concannon Award winners, three New England Hockey Writers players of the year, four conference players of the year, five conference goaltenders of the year, 20 All-New England selection, 51 all-conference honorees, and 18 all-rookie team members. The Beavers have finished the season with a top-20 ranking under Rice in team defense in 12 of the last 19 years, which includes ranking third overall in 2014 (1.59 GAA), 2020 (1.73) and 2021 (1.50). The Green and White led Division III under Rice in power play percentage in 2005 and combined special teams in 2013 and 2014.

The head coaching position at Babson was endowed as the Boxer-Rice Head Coach of Hockey in 2025, following a transformative gift from former men's ice hockey player Greg Boxer '07 and honoring Coach Rice.

A native of Newton, Massachusetts, Rice played forward for four seasons for Babson from 1986 to 1990, helping the Beavers amass a spectacular record of 81-31-10. He scored 24 goals along with 55 assists for 79 points in 116 career games, including a career-high 32 points in 1988-89.

Rice, who earned his Master's Degree in Education from Boston University in 1998, returned to Babson in 2004 after spending 14 years as an assistant coach at Colby College, Dartmouth College, Brown University, and Northeastern University. During his five-year tenure at Brown, he helped guide the Bears to a 1993 NCAA Tournament appearance and a 1995 Ivy League Championship.

In addition to the college ranks, Rice will be the head coach of Team Massachusetts at the USA Hockey National 17 Festival in 2027 and has served as a coach in the Massachusetts Satellite Program. He was a head coach at the USA Hockey Select 17 Festival in Buffalo, N.Y. in 2021, marking his eighth summer as a coach at USA Hockey’s National festivals.  He also served as a coach at the 2007 US World Junior Camp which was used to select the 2008 US World Junior Team and competed against Finland and Sweden in Lake Placid, N.Y.  Rice is a well-respected lecturer for USA Hockey's Coaching Education Program.

Rice currently resides in Walpole, Massachusetts with his wife, Stephanie, his son, Mark, and twin daughters, Erika and Kayla.
