Under the direction of 1991 Hall of Fame inductee and head coach Bob Hartwell, the 1975 men’s soccer team posted the only unbeaten season in program history (17-0-1) on the way to capturing Babson first national championship. One of the most decorated squads in Babson history, the Beavers featured six future members of the Hall of Fame – Jon Anderson '75, Franz Grueter '76, Shane Kennedy '76, Francis Pantuosco '79, Mark Paylor '78 and Jim Powers '76.
The Green and White conceded just five goals in 18 matches and recorded 13 shutouts on the season, three of which came in the NCAA Tournament, and outscored its opponents 61-5. Joseph Olivere '76 led Babson in scoring with 10 goals and four assists for 24 points, while Paylor and Robert Petroff '79 both scored seven times on the year. In all, nine different Beavers finished the campaign with at least three goals.
The Beavers defeated Westfield State and Plymouth State in overtime to advance to the Division III Final Four for the first time in school history. Following a victory over Ohio Wesleyan in the semifinals, Babson got a 42-minute goal from Paylor and six saves from Kennedy to edge Brockport 1-0 in the national championship game.
