NORTHAMPTON, Mass.—Junior
Nick Yacoub (Sharon, Mass.) recorded his second victory of the season and seven Babson College competitors finished among the top 12 to help the Beavers finish in first place at the Ellen O'Neil Invitational on Saturday afternoon on the campus of Smith College.
The Beavers totaled 29 points to finish well-ahead of both second-place Springfield (63) and third-place Clark (76) in a preview of next month's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship course.
Yacoub crossed the finish line in a time of 25:48 in his first 8k race of the season to come in 53 seconds ahead of his closest competitor. Junior
Daniel Garcia (Miami, Fla.) came in fifth with a time of 26:59, sophomore
Arthur Boulot (Geneva, Switzerland) placed sixth in a time of 27:02 and first-year
Luca Masolo (Portland, Ore.) finished eighth with a time of 27:04.
Senior
John Hanscom (Hadley, Mass.) posted a time of 27:14 to end in 10th position, classmate
Brian Gall (Norwalk, Conn.) was 11th with his time of 27:34 and sophomore
Connor Andrews (Wrightsville Beach, N.C.) came in 12th in a time of 27:57. First-year
Lucas Gonzalez (Pinecrest, Fla.) placed 15th with a time of 28:49, while classmate
Liam Deniau-Young (Salina, Kan.) was just a second behind him in 16th.
Babson is right back in action next Saturday when it travels to Greenwich, N.Y., for the RPI Fairgrounds Showdown beginning at 11 a.m.
