No. 18/RV Women’s Lacrosse Too Strong for Wellesley, 18-3

BABSON PARK, Mass.— Senior Lilly Bedard (Jupiter, Fla.) and first-year Hailey Murray (Swarthmore, Pa.) combined for eight goals and two assists, and 11 different players registered at least one point as No. 18/RV Babson College rolled to a lopsided victory over Wellesley College, 18-3, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse game Wednesday afternoon at MacDowell Field.

With the victory, Babson broke a two-game losing streak and improved to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the NEWMAC. Wellesley had dropped four of its last five outings and fell to 3-5 overall and 1-2 in conference games.

Bedard finished with four goals and two assists and Murray scored a season-high four goals for the Beavers. First-year Grace Rooney (Milton, Mass.) tallied a season-high three goals, junior Jen Austin (Farmington, Conn.) contributed a goal and two assists, and sophomore Hailey Ramundo (Amherst, N.H.) and first-year Ellie Schiller (Phoenix, Ariz.) each notched their first career goal in the victory. Sophomore Courtney Laden (Wilmette, Ill.) grabbed a team-high five draw controls, and three Beaver goalies combined for seven saves in net for the Green and White.

Sophomore Charlotte Petersen-Kopman (St. Louis, Mo.) and first-years Milica Simic (Park Ridge, Ill.) and Eliza Wysong (Kansas City, Mo.) accounted for the three Wellesley goals. Wysong collected a team-high five draw controls, and four goalies played 15 minutes each and combined for 10 saves in the setback.

Babson came out firing and pumped in three goals in opening five minutes, one each by Rooney, Bedard and sophomore Lauren Caley (Beverly, Mass.). After Wellesley kept the Beavers off the board the next five minutes, Murray and Bedard went back-to-back in a 68-second span and Rooney added her second of the game less than a minute later to give the hosts a 6-0 margin with four minutes to go in the opening stanza. Petersen-Kopman put the Blue on the board but Bedard and first-year Jenna Wong (Walpole, Mass.) tacked on goals to give the hosts an 8-1 margin heading into the second quarter.

Murray and Rooney fired in goals in the first minute of the second frame for the Beavers before Austin scored midway through the quarter and Bedard buried her fourth of the half with three minutes to go to give the Green and White a 12-1 at the intermission.

Murray and Simic traded player-up goals for the teams to open the scoring in the third quarter and Murray scored her fourth of the game to close out the period. Goals by Ramundo and Schiller highlighted the fourth quarter for the Beavers in the victory.

Babson finished with a 32-11 margin in total shots and forced Wellesley into 17 turnovers. The Green and White had a 17-6 advantage in ground balls and controlled 12 draws compared to 10 for the Blue.

Both teams resume NEWMAC action on Saturday at 1 p.m. as the Beavers host Smith on MacDowell Field and Wellesley returns home to host Salve Regina.

• Babson has won 10 in a row and 21 of the last 23 games versus the Blue and is 28-21 all-time against Wellesley in a series that dates back to 1987.
• The Beavers have won 28 of their last 28 NEWMAC regular season games going back to 2023 and is 37-3 in regular season conference games dating back to 2022.
• The Green and White are 3-0 at home this season and have won 14 straight regular season games on MacDowell Field dating back to 2024.
