Women's Swimming & Diving Beats Bentley for First Time Since 1999 in Season Opener, 172-116

WALTHAM, Mass. — Babson College got victories from six different swimmers and finished first in 12 events en route to a 172-116 win over Bentley University in its season-opening meet on Friday inside the Dana Center Pool.

Babson, which has opened the season with a victory in its first dual meet every year since 2018, defeated the Falcons for the first time since 1999. Bentley dropped to 1-1 overall with the loss.

Junior Julia Netishen (Exeter, N.H.) and first-year Ryan Vender (Winnetka, Ill.) both won a pair of individual events in addition to contributing to two relay victories. Netishen captured both the 50-yard freestyle (24.65) and 100-yard freestyle (54.52), while Vender outpaced the field in the 200-yard freestyle (1:58.67) and 500-yard freestyle (5:19.21). They teamed up with first-years Parker Jacobson-Bertanzetti (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and Leni So (New Canaan, Conn.) to win the 200-yard medley relay in 1:51.02, while Netishen, Vender, Jacobson-Bertanzetti and senior Sylvie Racicot (Arlington, Mass.) claimed the 400-yard freestyle relay in 3:39.68.

Junior Tuana Turhan (Lake Forest, Ill.) finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.37 and the 200-yard butterfly in 2:14.11, while So won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.17 and also touched the wall first in the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:34.54. Jacobson-Bertanzetti took first in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:11.72, and first-year Maya Wen (Fremont, Calif.) won the 100-yard backstroke in 1:02.49.

Racicot was the runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:04.12 in addition to placing third in both the 50-yard freestyle (25.96) and 100-yard freestyle (56.15). Junior Marta Gershanok (Closter, N.J.) came in second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:04.29 and also finished third in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:44.70) and 200-yard individual medley (2:21.47). So was the runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley (2:20.10), and sophomore Becky Hwang (Needham, Mass.) added a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:18.19.

First-year Mai Pho (Chelmsford, Mass.) placed third in both the 200-yard butterfly (2:22.73) and 200-yard backstroke (2:18.22), while sophomore Middy Hinckley (Trent Woods, N.C.) recorded a third-place finish in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:47.90.

The Beavers return to action at a multi-team meet hosted by WPI on Friday, October 30, beginning at 5 p.m.
