No. 14/13 Women's Lacrosse Overpowers Wellesley in Regular Season Finale, 25-1

WELLESLEY, Mass.—Senior Amelia Novitch (Dover, Mass.) finished with four goals and three assists for seven points and classmate Clare Connolly (Hanover, Mass.) contributed two goals, two assists and 20 draw controls as No. 14 IWLCA/No. 13 USA Lacrosse Babson College eased past Wellesley College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's lacrosse action on Wednesday night at Butler Stadium. 

With its 10th consecutive victory, Babson improves to 13-2 overall and a perfect 10-0 in league play marking its fourth unbeaten finish in the conference since 2016. Wellesley dropped its 13th straight game and ends the year at 1-14 overall and 0-10 in the NEWMAC. 

Graduate student Ellie Hilsabeck (Hingham, Mass.) and senior Kathryn Blake (Medfield, Mass.) both scored five times, while junior Lilly Bedard (Jupiter, Fla.) and first-year Estelle Gromko (Ipswich, Mass.) chipped in with a goal and two assists apiece to lead the Beavers. Connolly scooped up a team-high three ground balls and senior Kathleen Murphy (Scarborough, Maine) and sophomores Morgan McGahan (Ho Ho Kus, N.J.) and Valentina Erigoyen (Miami, Fla.) all recorded two saves on the night. 

Sophomore Katie McCabe (Jupiter, Fla.) provided a goal and three draw controls, while first-year Aspen Caudill (Louisville, Ky.) finished with nine saves and a game-high four ground balls in 34 minutes of action. 

Hilsabeck and Blake each scored twice to give the Green and White a 4-0 lead less than three minutes into the contest, while Novitch tallied four goals in less than five minutes to extend the margin to 11-0 with 4:28 to go in the first. McCabe got Wellesley on the board at the 2:55 mark, but senior Solana Fahey (North Andover, Mass.) scored with 36 seconds left in the stanza and Hilsabeck and Blake combined for the first five goals of the second quarter to make it 17-1 with 7:21 to go before halftime. 

The Babson lead was 20-1 at the break and Gromko set up tallies by junior Maria Martignetti (Winchester, Mass.) and Bedard in the third before scoring her fourth goal of the season with 5:25 to go in the fourth quarter. 

The Beavers held a 38-10 edge in shots and a 22-6 advantage in draw controls while converting all 15 of their clears. The Blue committed eight of its 21 turnovers in the first quarter and converted just 10-of-17 clear chances. 

Babson, which earned the top seed in the upcoming NEWMAC Tournament, will host either Coast Guard or Smith in semifinal next Wednesday. 

GAME NOTES
•    The Beavers are now 26-21 all-time against Wellesley and have won nine in a row and 20 of the last 22 games between the teams going back to 2007.
•    Babson has won 31 straight contests against NEWMAC foes and has scored at least 20 goals in 15 of the games. 
•    Novitch, who has at least one point in 30 consecutive games, is now fifth in program history with 69 assists and ranks 15th all-time with 178 points.
•    Connolly reached 20 draws in a game for the fourth time this season and sixth time in her career in Wednesday's victory.
