CLERMONT, Fla.—The Babson College softball team had nine different players drive in a run in a five-inning victory over Farmingdale State College and then scored three times in the top of the ninth inning to defeat the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse on Thursday at Legends Way Park.
The Beavers, who are now 7-3, defeated Farmingdale State 15-5 and then recorded a 7-4 win over Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Babson 15, Farmingdale State 5 (5 inn.)
Senior
Sara Moore (Kennett Square, Pa.) went 2-for-2 with a double, two RBI and three runs scored, sophomore
Charlotte Raymond (Wrentham, Mass.) was 1-for-2 with two RBI and two runs scored, and both junior
Sophia Pak (New Rochelle, N.Y.) and sophomore
Emily Walsh (Flemington, N.J.) singled twice and drove in a run to pace the Beavers' 15-hit attack. First-year
Belle DiCampello (Pottstown, Pa.) also singled and finished with three runs batted in in support of sophomore
Katie Vlacich (Concord, N.H.), who improved to 3-0 after giving up three earned runs over 5.0 innings.
Sophomore Bailey Hammock (Port Jervis, N.Y.) doubled and drove in a run and senior Angelina Capuano (Sayville, N.Y.) went 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored to lead the Rams. First-year Madison DeMaio (Elmont, N.Y.) was tagged with the loss after allowing six earned runs on six hits in 3.0 innings of work.
Despite recording just one hit, an RBI double by Hammock, Farmingdale State took advantage of a pair of walks to jump in front 3-0 in the top of the first. The lead was short-lived however, as Babson responded with four runs in the bottom of the frame, which included an RBI ground out by first-year
Samantha Skivo (Conshohocken, Pa.) and a two-out RBI single by Walsh.
First-year Kaysee Mojo (Riverhead, N.Y.) walked and scored on a passed ball to tie the game in the top of the second but DiCampello but the Green and White ahead with an RBI ground out and Raymond followed with a single to center that brought home senior
Athena Hadjipanayis (Rye, N.Y.) to make it 6-4 in the bottom of the inning.
After scoring twice in the third, the Beavers busted the game open with a seven-run fourth inning. Junior
Allie Cubberly (Lagrangeville, N.Y.) got things started with an RBI single, first-year
Maddy DeLong (Cranford, N.J.) drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 10-4, and Moore and DiCampello followed with two-run single before Pak capped the rally with a two-out RBI double to left center.
Babson 7, Wisconsin-La Crosse 4 (9 inn.)
Hadjipanayis and sophomore
Devin McCall (Virginia Beach, Va.) both singled twice and drove in a run, while Cubberly went 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and two runs scored for the Beavers, who finished with 10 hits. Graduate student
Cameron Whiteford (Centerville, Md.) recorded a season-high 12 strikeouts and allowed three runs on six hits in a complete-game effort in the circle to improve to 4-1 on the year.
Senior Kyra Lard (McHenry, Ill.) singled and drove in two runs and first-year Amber Gonzalez (Mosinee, Wis.) went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Falcons. Sophomore Carmen Follette (Dousman, Wis.) worked into the ninth inning but dropped to 2-2 on the year with the loss after giving up three earned runs on nine hits and six walks.
DeLong gave the Green and White a 1-0 lead with a two-out single to center that brought home Pak in the top of the second. Babson took advantage of a pair of walks in the second to double its advantage when McCall reached on a two-out infield single that allowed Raymond to score from second.
The Beavers stranded a pair of runners in the fifth but tacked on another run in the sixth as sophomore
Ruby Madia (Princeton Junction, N.J.) led off with a double and Cubberly, who came on as a pinch runner, raced home on a two-out wild pitch to make it 3-0. Whiteford, who allowed just one hit over the first six frames and retired 13 straight batters at one point, ran into trouble in the bottom of the seventh after giving up three straight singles. She nearly worked out of the jam thanks to a strikeout and a ground out, but Lard came through with a two-out, two-run single to tie the game and force extra innings.
Hadjipanayis singled home Walsh with two outs in the top of the eighth before the Falcons took advantage of an error to pull even in the bottom half of the inning. Cubberly put the Beavers back in front for good with an RBI single to left in the top of the ninth and later scored along with McCall on a three-base error on DeLong's fly ball to center for a three-run advantage.
Babson concludes its week in Florida on Friday when it faces McDaniel at 10 a.m.

• Wednesday's matchup was the first between Babson and Farmingdale State and the Beavers are now 1-1 all-time versus Wisconsin-La Crosse.
• DiCampello extended her hitting streak to nine games and has reached base safely in all 10 outings this season.
