Balanced Attack Leads No. 13/16 Women’s Lacrosse Past Roger Williams, 15-6

BRISTOL, R.I.—Seniors Michaela Downer (North Andover, Mass.) and Kathryn Blake (Medfield, Mass.) combined for seven goals and four assists, and five players had multiple points as No. 13/16 Babson College registered a 15-6 victory over Roger Williams University in non-conference women's lacrosse action at Bayside Field.

Babson, ranked 13th by the IWLCA and 16th by USA Lacrosse Magazine, captured its second straight victory and improved to 2-1 overall. Roger Williams lost its fourth game to a nationally-ranked team and fell to 2-5 on the season.

Downer produced career-highs of four goals and six points while Blake tallied five points on three goals and two assists. Senior Clare Connolly (Hanover, Mass.) scored four goals and grabbed five draw controls, graduate student Ellie Hilsabeck (Hingham, Mass.) contributed a goal and a team-high three assists, and senior Amelia Novitch (Dover, Mass.) scored twice. Graduate student Eileen Manning (Needham, Mass.) caused two turnovers and scooped up three ground balls and senior Kathleen Murphy (Scarborough, Maine) made six saves in goal and added six ground balls for the Beavers.

Sophomore Allie Shamberger (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) finished with two goals and an assist for the Hawks and senior Kimmy Creegan (Ramsey, N.J.) contributed three assists as well as six draw controls. Sophomore Miranda Hayes (South Burlington, Vt.) and senior Emma Terino (East Meadow, N.Y.) notched a goal and an assist, Hayes secured a game-high eight draw controls, and senior Josie Poulin (Marblehead, Mass.) and sophomore Jamie Anthony (Somers, Conn.) combined for three caused turnovers and nine ground balls. Senior Zoey Cormican (Rochester, N.H.) made 10 saves in goal in the loss.

After Hilsabeck and senior Mia Pantano (Reading, Mass.) exchanged goals 27 seconds apart early in the first quarter, the Beavers scored three in a row, one each from Downer, Novitch and Connolly, to take a 4-1 lead after the opening 15 minutes. Junior Margo Tenney (Braintree, Mass.) and Terino scored the first two goals of the second quarter to cut the deficit to 4-3, but the Beavers countered with the last two of the second quarter, by Downer and Novitch, and the first three of the third, one each from Blake, senior Jessica Evans (Southbury, Conn.), and Downer, as the Green and White pulled ahead to a 9-3 advantage.

Shamberger and Hayes sandwiched a pair of goals around one by Blake to end the third quarter down just 10-5, but the Beavers ran off five in a row in the fourth frame to wear the Hawks down. Connolly had three of the goals and Downer and Blake one each.

Babson finished with a 37-20 advantage in shots and a 22-18 margin in ground balls. Roger Williams stayed in the game for three quarters by winning 16 of 25 draws.

The Beavers return to action on Saturday in a conference game at Smith at 1 p.m. Roger Williams is home again on March 26 against Hartford at 4 p.m.

GAME NOTES
• Babson is 3-2 all-time against Roger Williams in a series that dates back to 2013, with four of the five games decided by at least six goals.
• The Beavers have won 17 of their last 21 road games going back to March 30, 2023.
• Evans extended her goal scoring streak to 30 games, Novitch has scored in her last 10 contests, and Connolly has finished with at least five draw controls in her last 30 outings since April of 2023.
