Softball Extends Winning Streak to Five with Victories Over Wooster and Curry on Final Day in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla.—Junior Sara Moore (Kennett Square, Pa.) finished the day with four hits, five stolen bases, two RBI and four runs scored as the Babson College softball team wrapped up its spring break trip with a pair of victories.

The Beavers (7-8) defeated the College of Wooster, 9-2, in their opener before topping Curry College, 7-2, in the second outing of the day to run its winning streak to five games.

Babson 9, Wooster 2
Moore went 3-for-3 with a double, two runs scored, two stolen bases and one RBI, senior Molly Hennessy (Tallahassee, Fla.) singled twice and drove in a run, and graduate student Kate Karamouzis (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) and sophomore Sophia Pak (New Rochelle, N.Y.) each drove in a pair of runs in the win. Senior Moira O'Reilly (Columbus, Ohio) struck out 15 and allowed two unearned runs while scattering seven hits to improve to 3-5 with her third straight win for the Beavers.

Sophomore Cate Barkdoll (Oak Park, Ill.) went 2-for-3 with a run scored and first-year Brenna Haydu (Green, Ohio) singled and drove in a run to lead the Scots. Senior Lilly McLendon (Dallas, Texas) shouldered the loss after giving up four runs on five hits in 1.2 innings of work.

Wooster (4-6) recorded four hits and took advantage of a pair of errors to take a 2-0 lead in the top of the first before O'Reilly limited the damage by escaping a bases-loaded jam with a strikeout. Pak and Moore tied the game with RBI singles in the bottom of the second and Babson went in front for good on Karamouzis' two-run double with one out in the third.

First-year Emily Walsh (Flemington, N.J.) made it 5-2 with a double to right center in the fourth and then scored on Hennessy's two-out single to left to give the Green and White a 6-2 edge. The Beavers tacked on three more runs in the sixth as first-year Ruby Madia (Princeton Junction, N.J.) plated Moore with an RBI single and scored on a sacrifice fly by junior Athena Hadjipanayis (Rye, N.Y.) before Pak was plunked with the bases loaded.

O'Reilly settled in quickly after giving up two runs in the first as she struck out the side in the second and retired 13 straight batters before allowing a leadoff single in the sixth.

Babson 7, Curry 2
Graduate student Cassidy Musco (Walpole, Mass.) went 2-for-2 with two runs scored and Moore finished 1-for-2 with two walks, three stolen bases and two runs scored for the Beavers, who saw nine different players reach base safely in the win. First-year Katie Vlacich (Concord, N.H.) struck out two and allowed two unearned runs while scattering nine hits in a complete-game effort to improve to 4-3 on the season.

Junior Jillian Rogers (East Freetown, Mass.) went 3-for-4 at the plate and fell to 2-1 on the year in the circle after allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking five for the Colonels.

Curry (7-1), which stranded a pair on base in the first, went in front 2-0 on a two-out error by the Green and White in the top of the third. Babson came right back to tie it in the bottom of the frame though, as Musco scored on an error following Moore's base hit, while Walsh delivered More from third with an RBI groundout.

Karamouzis brought home first-year Jackie Paglieri () with an infield single in the fourth to make it 3-2, Moore scored on another defensive miscue in the fifth and the Beavers tacked on three more insurance runs in the sixth. Karamouzis raced home on a passed ball, Musco scored on a throwing error and graduate student Michaela Russell (Boston, Mass.) drove in Walsh with a two-out RBI knock for a five-run lead.

Babson is off until March 30 when it opens NEWMAC play at home with a doubleheader against Coast Guard starting at 12 p.m.
