Men’s Ice Hockey Tops Saint Anselm for First Win, 3-1

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College got goals from three different players and 32 saves from sophomore goaltender Aidan Murphy (Walpole, Mass.) to defeat visiting Saint Anselm College, 3-1, in non-conference men's ice hockey action on Friday night at the Babson Skating Center.

With the win, Babson improves to 1-1-0 on the year, while Saint Anselm slips to 1-2-0.

Junior Nick Rosa (Birmingham, Mich.), sophomore Trevor Marcinick (Dublin, Ohio) and first-year Andrew Holland (Winchester, Mass.) all finished with a goal for the Beavers. Junior Patrick Flynn (Framingham, Mass.), sophomores Zach Richterman (Canton, Ohio) and John Corrigan (Stoneham, Mass.), and first-year James Perullo (Revere, Mass.) each chipped in with an assist in the victory.

Sophomore Anthony Iacullo (Barrington, Ill.) had a goal for the Hawks, who got 30 saves from first-year netminder Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.).

Iacullo gave Saint Anselm the lead 4:40 into the contest when he gloved down a loose puck in the neutral zone and went five-hole to beat Murphy for his first goal of the season. The Green and White killed off three penalties while allowing just four shots in the opening period, and went in front with a pair of second-period tallies.

Marcinick took a pass from Richterman at the red line and drove to the net after splitting a trio of Hawks' defenders to tie the game at 1-1 on his first goal of the season at the 3:44 mark. The Beavers took the lead with 4:46 left in the stanza when Holland cleaned up the rebound after Howard stopped Flynn at the top of the crease for his first collegiate goal.

Murphy made 12 of his 32 stops in the third period, and the defense worked hard in front of him blocking three shots after Babson was whistled for a hooking penalty with 2:09 to play in the third. Rosa put the finishing touches on the win with an empty net goal with 2.9 seconds remaining after Corrigan won a battle for the puck in the corner.

Babson plays the first of seven consecutive road games at Southern Maine next Friday at 7 p.m., while Saint Anselm hosts Saint Michael's on Saturday at 4 p.m.
