BABSON PARK, Mass.—Coming off his conference player of the week selection on Monday, Babson College senior Frank Oftring (North Attleboro, Mass.) was named to the D3hoops.com Team of the Week on Tuesday night.
Joining Otring was senior Lucas Martin of Salisbury, Jason Ellis of Marietta, sophomore Austin Grunder of SUNY Cortland and first-year Shion Darby of Rhode Island College.
Oftring put up three straight double-doubles and finished the week with averages of 24.0 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists to help the Beavers stay unbeaten. He shot 66.7 percent from the floor and was 10-of-17 from three-point range (58.8 percent) as Babson defeated then-14th-ranked Amherst, Salem State and Tufts.
Oftring opened the week by going 12-of-17 from the floor and knocking down five three-pointers for a career-high 30 points in an 87-82 victory over the Mammoths. Despite attempting just one first half shot on Saturday, he finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks in an 81-75 road win over the Vikings. Oftring capped the week with 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting to go along with 10 boards and four assists to claim most valuable player honors as Babson defeated Tufts, 99-85, to claim its first New England Big 4 Challenge title since 2016 on Sunday.
The team leader in both points (16.8) and rebounds (8.1), Oftring is also averaging 2.2 assists and 1.2 blocked shots while shooting 56.9 percent from the floor in just over 25 minutes per game. His team-high four double-doubles are good for second in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC).
No. 14 Babson (9-0), which entered the D3hoops.com poll for the first time in over two years, returns to action on December 30 when it takes on Eastern Connecticut State to open the Trinity Holiday Invitational at 7 p.m. in Hartford, Conn.
