COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.—Babson College seniors
Caroline DiGiovanni (Harwich, Mass.) and
Sanne van der Goes (Glenview, Ill.) were named to the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Division III Senior Team in an announcement made by the organization on Thursday morning.
DiGiovanni and van der Goes were among 60 student-athletes representing 45 Division III institutions to be recognized by the NFHCA. Babson was one of 15 programs to land two players on the list.
A four-year veteran and three-year starter,
DiGiovanni has enjoyed another outstanding season, earning New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive Athlete of the Year and First-Team All-Conference. She has reached career highs with 25 goals and 50 points and ranks 13th in Division III in goals per game (1.09) and 25th in points per game (2.17). The Babson senior produced a career-best seven-game goal-scoring streak and five multi-goal outings, including a hat trick against Clark and a career-high four goals in a win over the University of New England. She has scored at least one goal in 17 of the team's 23 games and also led the NEWMAC with eight game-winning scores.
A veteran of 85 career games with 67 starts, DiGiovanni has scored 59 goals with five assists for 123 points. She is tied for fourth on the Babson all-time single-season goals list, tied for third on the all-time career goals list, and ranks ninth on the career points list. A first-team All-Region selection last year, she was named the Most Outstanding Player in this year's NEWMAC Tournament.
One of five players to start all 23 games for the Beavers this season,
van der Goes was named First Team All-Conference for her efforts on defense, back boning a squad that has allowed just 20 goals in 23 games while recording 11 shutouts. She helps leads a Beaver defense that ranks 11th in Division III with a 0.86 team goals against average and 13th in shutouts per game (0.48). She helped the team to a 10th straight NEWMAC regular season crown, back-to-back shutouts to capture its fifth consecutive conference champions, and allowed just one goal on the way to a pair of NCAA Tournament victories.
A four-year veteran at right back, van der goes has started on defense for the Beavers in the last 84 of her 86 career appearances, helping the team to 45 shutouts in 93 games.
No. 3 Babson has advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament semifinals, and will take on No. 2 Johns Hopkins on Friday at 3:30 p.m. at Robin Sheppard Field in Hartford, Conn.
