Cavanaugh, Rodriguez Record Top-10 Finishes for Babson Women
SPRINGFIELD, Mass.—Eight runners recorded the top times of their respective careers as the Babson College men's and women's cross country teams both finished eighth at the Western New England Invitational on Saturday.
The women's squad was led by junior Emma Cavanaugh (Southbury, Conn.), who made her season debut with a career-best time of 22:30 to finish sixth overall on the 6k course. Senior Stephanie Rodriguez (Guatemala City, Guatemala) also posted the top 6k time of her career, placing ninth in 22:48.
Junior Camille Lewis (Cheshire, Conn.) crossed the finish line in 24:44 to come in 38th, first-year Laurel Roney (Mahomet, Ill.) placed 55th in a time of 25:12, and sophomore Nina Sitarski (Plainville, Mass.) rounded out the Beavers' top five with a time of 26:14. Junior Caroline Winicki (Middlebury, Conn.) finished the course in 26:18, while sophomore Alida Beste (Burlington, Vt.) ran a time of 26:27.
Sophomore Amanda Karch (Sandwich, Mass.), who posted a time of 26:37, and senior Maeve Sullivan (Wilmington, Mass.), who finished the 6k race in 27:00, also recorded career-best times for the Green and White.
On the men's side, seniors Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.) and Nicholas Virkler (Lincoln, Mass.) finished 33rd and 42nd, respectively, to lead the Beavers. Arora ran a time of 28:00, while Virkler came in with a career-best time of 28:17.
First-year Dylan Raimondi (Quincy, Mass.) came in 49th ran a career-best time of 28:28, which was one second ahead of classmate Gabriel Ortega (Pompano Beach, Fla.). Sophomore Collin Regan (Pittsford, N.Y.) finished 52nd in a time of 28:32, classmate Matthew Campbell (South Easton, Mass.) set a new PR with his time of 29:00, and first-year Matthew Croissant (Carpentersville, Ill.) came in just behind him with a time of 29:03.
Babson returns to action on November 3 when it travels to Franklin Park for the NEWMAC Championships.
