NORTON, Mass.—Sophomore Collin Regan (Pittsford, N.Y.) won the men's 5k race and senior Stephanie Rodriguez (Guatemala City, Guatemala) came in second in the women's 2-mile run in Babson College's season-opening dual meet at Wheaton College on Friday afternoon.
The Beavers edged Wheaton 24-31 in the men's, while the Lyons outpointed Babson 19-44 in the women's half of the meet.
Regan posted a time of 17:01 on the 5k course to record the first victory of his career by 13 seconds. Senior Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.) came in fourth overall with a time of 17:46, first-year Gabriel Ortega (Pompano Beach, Fla.) was 10 seconds behind him in fifth place, and sophomore Joseph Marwill (Hingham, Mass.) placed sixth for the Beavers with a time of 18:01.
Rodriguez was the lone top-10 finisher for the Green and White with her time of 12:29 on the 2-mile course. Junior Camille Lewis (Cheshire, Conn.) placed 11th overall with a time of 13:41, which was nine seconds faster than classmate Caroline Winicki (Middlebury, Conn.), who crossed the finish line in 13:50.
First-year Laurel Roney (Mahomet, Ill.) recorded Babson's fourth fastest time (14:11), which was one second better than sophomore Amanada Karch (Sandwich, Mass.).
The Beavers return to action on September 7 when they travel to Fitchburg State for the Jim Sheenan Memorial Invitational.
