NORTHAMPTON, Mass. — Junior Nando Baumann (Heiden, Switzerland) turned in a second-place performance for the Babson men's cross country team running 27:09.3 in the 8k during his collegiate debut at the Smith Invitational. The men came in fourth overall, while the women finished fifth.
First-year Collin Regan (Rochester, N.Y) placed ninth running 5:43.4 to finish less than three seconds ahead of sophomore Zach Goldberg (Westford, Mass.) who crossed the line in 11th. Junior Samir Arora (Fremont, Calif.) posted a time of 29:01.5, while first-years Michael Cantaluppi (Randolph, N.J.) and Joseph Marwill (Hingham, Mass.) ran 29:25.5 and 29:50.6 respectively. Senior Austin Henry (Egg Harbor Township, N.J.) rounded out the Beavers top seven running 30:37.0.
On the women's side, sophomore Emma Cavanaugh(Southbury, Conn.) placed 19th in the 5k running 21:39.8 to finish a second ahead of first-year Hannah Piispanen (Winchester, Mass.). First-years Vivian Lehman (Weston, Mass.) and Nina Sitarski (Plainville, Mass.) dipped under the 22:30 mark running 22:22.1 and 22:28.8, while their classmates, Alida Beste (Burlington, Vt.) and Leah Sussman (Wyckoff, NJ) clocked in at 22:34.3 and 22.35.2, respectively. First-year Amanda Karch (Sandwich, Mass.) ran 23:30.5 to round out Babson's scorers.
The Beavers are set to compete at the UMass Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday, September 15, before taking a week off to recover.
