Beavers Match 2017 Squad for Best Start Since 2008
MANCHESTER, N.H.—Junior Allie Puccio (New Hartford, N.Y.) finished with a season-high 14 kills to help 18th-ranked Babson College defeat Southern New Hampshire University, 3-0 (25-22, 25-18, 25-23), in non-conference women's volleyball action on Wednesday night.
With the win, Babson matched its best start since 2008 at 4-0. Division II Southern New Hampshire, which played the match as an exhibition, opens its season on Saturday against Merrimack.
Junior Gaby Miller (Miami, Fla.) hit .500 with six kills and senior Kristin Carosotto (East Greenwich, R.I.) added six kills and two blocks for the Beavers. Classmate Elizabeth Cameron (El Dorado Hills, Calif.) doled out 26 assists, while sophomore Maddie Malee (Orlando, Fla.) contributed 14 digs and a match-high four service errors in the win.
Senior Jaclyn Maguire (Rochester, N.Y.) recorded 10 kills, classmate Joanne Coffey (Merrimack, N.H.) dished out 18 assists, and junior Gabrielle Woodson (Melbourne, Fla.) led all players with 16 digs for the Penmen.
Babson returns to action on September 13 when it hosts SUNY Geneseo in its opening match of the MIT Invitational inside Staake Gymnasium at 6:30 p.m.
• The Beavers are 1-0 all-time against Southern New Hampshire.
• Wednesday's match was the first for Babson against a Northeast-10 Conference opponent since 1994.
• Despite finishing with its lowest hitting percentage of the season, the Green and White hit .241 as a team in the first and third sets.
• The Beavers have gone 25-5 in the month of September going back to 2017.
