WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College sophomore Rachel Williams (Chicago, Ill.) was honored for her work in the classroom on Thursday when she was named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) announced its Academic All-Conference team.
Williams has appeared in 11 matches this fall totaling 24 kills in 55 attempts for a career-best .255 hitting percentage. She also is averaging a career-high 1.33 kills per set from her outside hitter position, and recorded five kills apiece in three-set wins over Colby-Sawyer on October 4 and Mount Holyoke on October 27.
In order to be eligible for NEWMAC Academic All-Conference consideration, honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2017 spring semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
Babson (22-8) defeated MIT in four sets on Thursday night to reach the NEWMAC Tournament final for the first time since 2015. The Beavers travel to Springfield on Saturday at 1 p.m.
