Lynch Follows Up 3,000th Assist With NEWMAC Volleyball Player of the Week Honors
WELLESLEY, Mass. -- Following a history-making performance against WPI on Saturday, Babson College senior captain Kathleen Lynch (Quincy, Mass.) was chosen as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Volleyball Player of the Week on Monday.
Lynch had another sensational week at the setter position for regionally-ranked Babson, totaling 104 assists (9.45 A/S), 31 digs (2.82 D/S), four total blocks, three service aces, and eight kills in a 3-0 week for the Beavers. She recorded 38 assists, three kills, an ace, and 11 digs in a 3-1 win over Smith on Tuesday, and then put up 38 more assists to go with three kills, an ace, and 15 digs in a 3-1 victory at Emerson on Thursday.
Lynch capped off the week by making history in her team's 3-0 sweep at WPI on Saturday, amassing two kills, an ace, five digs, and three total blocks while also dishing out 28 assists. Her second-to-last assist in that win was the 3,000th of her illustrious career, making her the first confirmed player in Babson history to reach the 3,000-assist plateau.
With Lynch leading the way, the upstart Beavers have earned their first regional ranking in more than a decade. Babson, which currently sits at 12th in New England in the NEWVA poll, is 7-2 on the year and will put its three-match winning streak on the line with a 7 p.m. contest at Wheaton on Tuesday night.
