NEW ORLEANS—Senior Angelina Raffone (Westbrook, Conn.) and the Babson College women's track & field team were both honored when the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced its All-Academic award winners on Monday.
Raffone became just the second female and third Babson track & field athlete since 2007 to collect USTFCCCA All-Academic individual honors following a successful 2019 campaign. One of 631 women to be recognized, Raffone is the Beavers' school-record holder in the 100-meter dash and her time of 12.24 ranked 33rd among Division III sprinters this past spring. Raffone graduated with a 3.52 cumulative grade-point average and was tabbed as one of two Dr. Norm Govoni Scholar-Athletes of the Class at Babson's Senior Awards Banquet back in April.
In order to qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, a student-athlete must have compiled at least a 3.30 cumulative grade-point average and have competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship, or finished the regular season ranked in the top-50 nationally in an individual event or in the top-35 in a relay event.
In addition to Raffone's individual award, the Beavers' women's track & field squad earned their 12th straight USTFCCCA All-Academic team honor. Under the direction of head coach Russ Brennen, the Green and White posted a 3.23 GPA during the 2018-19 academic year and was one of 184 women's programs to be recognized.
Babson came in ninth at the conference meet and 30th at the NCAA New England Championships this past spring.
