WESTWOOD, Mass.—The Babson College women's track & field team was picked to finish eighth when the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) released its preseason coaches' poll on Tuesday afternoon.
Nine-time defending champion MIT was nearly a unanimous choice to repeat after collected eight of nine first-place votes. WPI came in second, while Wheaton College, Coast Guard Academy and Springfield College rounded out the top five.
The Beavers return 11 athletes from a squad that earned the program's most points at the conference meet since 2003 last season. Under the direction of 14th-year head coach Russ Brennen, the Green and White set six school records and sent six individual qualifiers to the NCAA regional championships last season.
Babson opens the 2018 campaign at the Bridgewater State Invitational on March 24.
