NORTON, Mass.—Junior Emily Roeper (Belle Mead, N.J.) and sophomores Nastasia Tamarkin (Washington, D.C.) and Marissa Madison (Columbus, Ohio) all collected points in singles and doubles to help visiting Babson College defeat Wheaton College, 6-3, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Tuesday at the Clark Courts.
With its sixth consecutive victory, Babson improves to 10-4 overall and 6-0 in league play, while Wheaton drops to 5-9 overall and 3-4 in the NEWMAC.
Madison and sophomore Carolina Merz (Santa Tecla, El Salvador) picked up the first point of the match with an 8-1 win at number two doubles, while Tamarkin and sophomore Alexa Tutecky (North York, Ontario) followed with an 8-6 victory at number one. The Beavers wrapped up a sweep of doubles at number three where Roeper and first-year Mary Kille (Simsbury, Conn.) with an 8-7 (7-5) result.
The Lyons grabbed their first point of the match at number one singles where senior Ines de Bracamonte (Sunny Isles Beach, Fla.) defeated Merz, 7-5, 6-2. Junior Hailey Swantson (Hudsonville, Mich.) followed with a straight-set victory over Babson senior Alexandra Blizard (Dover, Mass.) at number six, but the Beavers responded with straight-set wins by Tamarakin (6-1, 6-3) at number two and Roeper (6-2, 6-2) at number four to secure the match.
Kille fell in straight sets at number five, while Madison collected the Green and White's final point of the match by rallying for a 5-7, 6-1, 10-4 triumph t number three.
Babson returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Wellesley at 5 p.m., while Wheaton wraps up the regular season at Smith on Saturday.
• The Beavers are 16-11 all-time against Wheaton and have won six consecutive matches in the series.
• Tamarkin extended her winning streak in singles to six straight matches, while Roeper and Kille have won six matches in a row in doubles.
