BABSON PARK, Mass.—Seven players contributed a point and Babson College needed less than two hours to defeat visiting Smith College, 9-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis action on Tuesday afternoon at the Babson Tennis Complex.
Babson, which has won four of its last five matches, improves to 6-4 overall and 3-0 in league play, while Smith falls to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in the NEWMAC.
The Beavers dominated in doubles losing just one game across three matches. Sophomores Nastasia Tamarkin (Washington, D.C.) and Ally Kaden (Brielle, N.J.) picked up the first point with an 8-0 win at number three, junior Emily Roeper (Belle Mead, N.J.) and first-year Mary Kille (Simsbury, Conn.) followed with an 8-0 rout at number two, and sophomores Carolina Merz (Santa Tecla, El Salvador) and Marissa Madison (Columbus, Ohio) posted an 8-1 victory at number one.
The Green and White cruised in singles, highlighted by 6-0, 6-0 wins by Kille at number five and senior Alexandra Blizard (Dover, Mass.) at number six. Tamarkin recorded a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number two, Madison won 6-0, 6-1 at number three and Roeper posted a 6-1, 6-0 result at number four. Merz also collected her second point of the day with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph at number one.
Both teams return to action on Saturday at 12 p.m. as Babson travels to Mount Holyoke, while Smith visits Emerson.
• The Beavers are 16-15 all-time against Smith and have won 12 straight matches agaist the Pioneers going back to 2007.
• Babson has won four straight matches at home.
• Kille and Madison have both won four straight matches in singles.
