Madison Named Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week

WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College sophomore Marissa Madison (Columbus, Ohio) was named New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women's tennis Singles Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.

Madison went 2-0 at number four singles and 1-0 at number three singles in a 3-1 week for Babson. She cruised to a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Eliana Flores-Barber of Emerson in the Beavers' sweep of Emerson on Wednesday, and posted a 6-2, 6-0 win over Trinity's Krista Jiranek in Thursday's 7-2 defeat of Trinity.

Madison dropped the first set in an unfinished match as Babson suffered a 6-0 loss at No. 18 Brandeis on Friday before rallying for a 5-7, 6-4, 11-9 victory at third singles as the Green and White stayed unbeaten with a 9-0 rout of Springfield on Saturday.

Madison, who is tied for the team lead in singles wins, is 8-4 overall and a perfect 4-0 at number four singles on the year.

Babson (5-4, 2-0 NEWMAC) hosts Smith on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
