Women's Tennis Falls at No. 18 Brandeis, 6-0

WALTHAM, Mass.—No. 18 Brandeis University won three close matches in doubles and went on claim two of three singles matches in straight sets on the way to defeating visiting Babson College, 6-0, in non-conference women's tennis action on Friday afternoon at the Gosman Sports Complex.

Babson, which had its two-match winning streak snapped, slips to 4-4 on the year, while Brandeis improved to 6-4 with its third consecutive victory.

Sophomores Alexa Tutecky (North York, Ontario) and Nastasia Tamarkin (Washington, D.C.) dropped an 8-4 decision at number one, classmates Carolina Merz (Santa Tecla, El Salvador) and Marissa Madison (Columbus, Ohio) fell 8-6 at number two, and junior Emily Roeper (Belle Mead, N.J.) and first-year Mary Kille (Simsbury, Conn.) also lost 8-6 at number three.

Tamarkin suffered a 6-0, 6-0 loss at number two singles to senior Olivia Leavitt (Falmouth, Maine), while Merz was beaten by senior Keren Kromchecnko (Manalapan, N.J.), 7-5, 6-2 at number three. Tutecky played the most competitive singles match of the afternoon at number one, splitting the first two sets before falling 7-6 (7-1), 3-6, 6-4 to Judges' junior Diana Dehterevich (Minsk, Belarus).

Madison was trailing 6-2, 4-5 at number four singles when the match was decided.

Babson returns to action on Saturday at 12 p.m. at Springfield, while Brandeis hosts Wellesley next Friday at 3 p.m.
