LEWISTON, Maine—The Babson College women's tennis team traveled to Bates College to compete in the Wallach Doubles Invitational for the second year in a row on Saturday.
The Beavers were led by the sophomore duo of Alexa Tutecky (North York, Ontario) and Carolina Merz (San Tecla, El Salvador), who won two of their three matches in the A draw. The duo suffered an 8-5 loss to Julia Marks and Devon Wolfe of Bowdoin in the opening round before bouncing back with consecutive wins. Tutecky and Merz defeated Elena Pellegrini and Marta Drawsnik of Trinity, 8-1, and then topped Anna Rozin and Hannah Sweeney of the host Bobcats, 8-6, in the consolation final.
Sophomore Marissa Madison (Columbus, Ohio) and first-year Mary Kille (Simsbury, Conn.) dropped their opening match in the B draw, but rallied defeat Gabriella Venditti and Callie Nesbitt of Colby, 8-5, in a consolation match. Senior Chloe Brandt (Denver, Colo.) and junior Emily Roeper (Belle Mead, N.J.) also competed in the B draw, suffering an 8-7 loss to Venditti and Nesbitt in their opener before dropping a consolation contest to Haley Washington and Hannah Londoner of Bates.
The pairings of senior Alexandra Blizard (Dover, Mass.) and sophomore Ally Kaden (Brielle, N.J.) and first-years Carly Martinson (Yardley, Pa.) and Nathalie Perreault (Darien, Conn.) both dropped their opening matches in the C draw.
Babson returns to action next Friday when it begins play at the ITA New England Championships at Williams.
