Trinity Outlasts Women's Tennis, 6-3

HARTFORD, Conn.—The Babson College women's tennis team led 2-1 after doubles, but Trinity College won five of six singles matches to defeat the Beavers, 6-3, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Babson, which has dropped its first two matches of the spring, is now 10-5 on the year, while Trinity improves to 5-2 with its third straight win.

Senior Dina Weick (Woodbridge, Conn.) and sophomore Eleni Gianelos (West Chester, Pa.) gave the Green and White an early lead with an 8-1 triumph at number two doubles. The Bantams rolled to an 8-2 win at number one, but Babson responded with an 8-4 victory by junior Claire Foster (Orange, Conn.) and first-year Emily Roeper (Belle Mead, N.J.) at number three to go back in front 2-1.

Trinity dominated singles play, winning four of its five matches in straight sets. First-year Krista Jiranek (Owings Mills, Md.) tied the match with a 7-5, 6-2 win over sophomore Chloe Brandt (Denver, Colo.) at number three, junior Vanja Bubunski (Belgrade, Serbia) topped Gianelos, 6-0, 6-4, at number one, and first-year Julia Brogan (Falmouth, Maine) outlasted Weick for a 7-6 (7-2), 0-6, 6-2 triumph at number two.

The Bantams clinched their victory wins at fourth and fifth singles, while Beavers' junior Kylie Kam (Honolulu, Hawaii) earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory at number six in the final match of the day.

Babson returns to action on April 12 when it hosts Connecticut College on April 12, while Trinity takes on nationally-ranked Brandeis next Saturday.
