Women's Tennis Celebrates Senior Day With 8-1 Win Over Salve Regina
The Babson College women’s tennis team capped off its 2009-10 season with an 8-1 win over visiting Salve Regina University at the Boston Sports Club on Friday night. With the win, the Beavers ended the year with a record of 8-9, while the Seahawks fell to 6-11. Friday marked the final collegiate home match for Babson senior tri-captains Jes Huang (Andover, Mass.), Liz Sheerin (Melrose, Mass.), and Lorena Becerra (Key Biscayne, Fla.). Although Becerra did not play against Salve Regina, Huang and Sheerin capped off their careers by teaming up for an 8-5 win at number one doubles.

Trinity Overwhelms Women's Tennis, 8-1
The Babson College women’s tennis team fell to visiting Trinity College, 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at Farwell Courts. Sophomore Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.) won the Beavers lone match of the day at the number two singles spot where she defeated sophomore Kelsey Semrod (Princeton, N.J.), 7-5, 6-0. The Beavers will play in their final match of the year on Friday, April 9th when they host Salve Regina at 3:30pm.

Connecticut College Edges Out Women's Tennis, 5-4
Connecticut College rebounded from an early 2-1 deficit with four singles victories as the visiting Camels rallied for a 5-4 win over host Babson College in a non-conference women’s tennis match on Friday afternoon. With the win, Connecticut College improved to 6-2 on the year, while the Beavers lost their fourth straight to fall to 7-8. Babson built an early lead by taking two of the three doubles matches. Senior captain Jes Huang (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.) teamed up for an 8-3 win at number one, and sophomore Ashley Lake (Brockton, Mass.) and first-year Victoria Lorido (Miami, Fla.) combined on a 9-8 (7) tie-break win at number three.

Brandeis Too Strong For Men's And Women's Tennis
The Brandeis University men’s and women’s tennis teams both earned convincing victories over host Babson College on Thursday. The Brandeis women, ranked 28th in the nation, defeated the Beavers by a score of 8-1, while the men’s team topped Babson, 9-0. Babson (7-6) picked up its lone point in the women’s match at number one doubles, where the tandem of senior captain Jes Huang (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.) edged the Judges’ top duo of first-year Faith Broderick (Washingtonville, N.Y.) and junior Rachel Rosman (Bonita Springs, Fla.), 9-7. However, Brandeis (6-5) took the remaining two doubles contests and all six singles matches, including a a 6-3, 6-0 win by Broderick at one and a 6-1, 6-1 triumph by Rosmon at two, to run away with the 8-1 victory.

Holy Cross Topples Women's Tennis, 6-3
Holy Cross took the bottom two doubles matches and the lower four singles contests to earn a 6-3 road win over host Babson College in non-conference women’s tennis action at the Farwell Courts on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Crusaders improved to 3-6 on the year, while the Beavers fell to 7-6. All three Babson points came courtesy of senior captain Jes Huang (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.). The two won their match at number one doubles before Huang prevailed at number one singles and Stone added at victory at number two.

Women's Tennis Falls to Bates, 5-2
The Babson College women’s tennis team fell to Bates College on Tuesday afternoon by a score of 5-2 at The Racket and Fitness Center in Portland. Babson was the home team, as the match was originally scheduled for March 10 at Babson. The Beavers recieved wins from number one singles player Jes Huang and number two doubles team Liz Sheerin and Lorena Becerra. Babson will host Holy Cross Wednesday afternoon at 3:30pm.

Women's Tennis Places Four On NEWMAC All-Conference Team
The Babson College women's tennis team recently had four athletes receive New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) All-League honors. First-year Mikaela Stamas (Northborough, Mass.) was named All-NEWMAC Second Team at number five singles, sophomore Gabriela Baez (Quito, Ecuador) was named All-Conference Second Team at number six singles, and junior Monica Mercer (Woodinville, Wash.) and sophomore Ashley Lake (Brockton, Mass.) were each named All-NEWMAC Second Team at number three doubles.

MIT Eliminates Women's Tennis in NEWMAC Quarterfinal Match, 5-4
The Massachusetts Institute of Technology played host to the 2009 New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Women's Tennis Championship Saturday at the J.B. Carr Tennis Bubble. The two-day event began with quarterfinal matches as the #6 seed Engineers of MIT took on the #3 Beavers of Babson College and the #5 Lyons of Mount Holyoke College challenged the #4 Pioneers of Smith College. After the day was done, the Engineers and Pioneers were victorious, and the Beavers and Lyons were eliminated.

Women's Tennis Locks Up Third Seed With 7-2 Win Over MIT
The Babson College women’s tennis team finished up its regular season competition with a 7-2 victory over visiting MIT in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest at the Farwell Courts on Tuesday afternoon. With the win, Babson (7-3 overall, 5-2 NEWMAC) will enter this weekend’s conference tournament as the third seed and will have face sixth-seeded MIT (3-5 overall, 3-4 NEWMAC) in a rematch of today’s contest in the NEWMAC Quarterfinals this Saturday, October 24, at 11 a.m. at MIT.

Women's Tennis Suffers 7-2 Defeat At Wellesley
The Wellesley College tennis team knocked off NEWMAC-rival Babson, 7-2, indoors at the Keohane Sports Center on Tuesday evening. Wellesley improves to 6-2 overall with a 6-1 mark in NEWMAC play, while Babson's record now stands at 6-3 overall and 4-2 in the NEWMAC. Babson got its points in the fifth singles spot, where Mikaela Stamas (Northborough, MA) recorded a 6-3, 6-3 victory, and at six, where Gabriela Baez (Quito, Ecuador) was a 7-5, 6-1 winner.

Women's Tennis Snaps Skid With 8-1 Win Over Mount Holyoke
Babson College snapped a two-match slide with a big 8-1 victory over visiting Mount Holyoke College in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s tennis contest at the Farwell Courts on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Beavers improved to 6-2 overall and 4-1 in the conference, while the Lyons dipped to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the NEWMAC. Babson jumped in front early by taking two of the three doubles contests, as the Beavers received matching 8-0 victories from the tandem of senior captain Jes Huang (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.) at one and the team of sophomore Ashley Lake (Brockton, Mass.) and junior Monica Mercer (Woodinville, Wash.) at three. The Beavers then put the contest away in singles competition, winning all six duels to clinch the 8-1 overall victory.

Wheaton Wrests First Place From Women's Tennis With 6-3 Win
The Wheaton College women's tennis team moved into a tie for first place in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) on Tuesday afternoon thanks to its 6-3 victory over previously league unbeaten Babson College in a battle between regionally-ranked squads on the Clark Tennis Courts. Improving to 8-2 overall and 4-1 in league play, the Lyons entered today's match ranked 12th in the Northeast by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA), while the 15th-ranked Beavers suffered their second straight loss in falling to 5-2 and 3-1.

Tufts Hands Women's Tennis First Loss, 9-0
The Babson College women's tennis team saw its five-match win streak come to a halt on Sunday, as the Beavers fell to regional powerhouse Tufts University, 9-0. With the loss, Babson falls to 5-1 on the year. The Beavers' closest two matches of the day came at first and third singles. Senior captain Jes Huang fell to Tufts' Julia Browne, 6-3, 6-1, at one, while senior captain Lorena Becerra lost to Janice Lam, 6-3, 6-2, at three.

Women's Tennis Edges Springfield, 5-4
Babson College sophomore Carolina Baez (Quito, Ecuador) pulled out a three-set victory at number six singles to help the Beavers claim a thrilling 5-4 win over visiting New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) foe Springfield College in a women's tennis contest at the Boston Sports Club on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, Babson remained perfect on the year at 5-0 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while the narrow defeat dropped the Pride's record to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in the NEWMAC. Babson received a quick 8-1 win by senior captain Jes Huang (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Rebecca Stone (DOver, Mass.) at number one doubles, but Springfield took the remaining two matches to take a 2-1 overall lead.

Women's Tennis Thumps Smith, 8-1
Babson College improved to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a convincing 8-1 victory over host Smith College in women's tennis action on Saturday afternoon. The Beavers took two out of three doubles matches and then swept the singles contests en route to the win. Senior captain Jes Huang and sophomore Rebecca Stone highlighted Babson's doubles play with an 8-2 win at number one, while junior Monica Mercer and sophomore Ashley Lake notched an 8-5 win at three. The Beavers then took over the contest in singles play, winning all six matches, including five in straight sets.

Stone, Huang Represent Babson At ITA Women's Tennis Championships
Senior captain Jes Huang (Andover, Mass.) and sophomore Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.) both represented Babson College at the 2009 ITA Women's Tennis Championships hosted by MIT on Friday. Each won one of their singles matches as well as one doubles contest. In singles play, Stone won her first-round match in the championship bracket against Cassie Smith of Connecticut College, 6-4, 6-4, before falling to Rachel Rosman of Brandeis, 6-3, 6-1, in the second round. Meanwhile, Huang dropped her first-round meeting with Laura Danzig of Amherst, 6-0, 6-1, before winning her first match in the consolation bracket against Nathalie Herman of Wellesley, 6-1, 6-3.

Jes Huang Named NEWMAC Women's Tennis Singles Player of the Week
Babson College senior Jes Huang (Andover, Mass.) has been named the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) women’s tennis player of the week. Huang won both of her matches at number one singles this week as the Beavers went 2-0 as a team. On Tuesday, she recorded a key 6-2, 7-5 victory over Simmons' Sabrina Salmela, helping the Beavers claim a close 5-4 win. Then on Sunday, she posted a dominating 6-0, 6-0 triumph over Alexa Ebert of Clark, helping Babson open its NEWMAC schedule with a 9-0 victory over the Cougars.

Senior captains Liz Sheerin and Lorena Becerra teamed up for a convincing 8-0 triumph at two, and sophomore Carolina Baez and junior Caroline Hobert won their match at three by a score of 8-2.

Mercer Helps Women's Tennis Complete 5-4 Comeback Win At Simmons
The Babson College women's tennis team improved to 2-0 with a close 5-4 victory at Simmons College on Tuesday. Junior Monica Mercer provided the Beavers with the decisive point, as her three-set win at third singles snapped a 4-4 tie. Simmons held a 2-1 lead after doubles play, with Babson's lone point coming courtesy of an 8-4 win at number two by senior captain Jes Huang and sophomore Ashley Lake. The two teams then split the first four singles matches to finish, with Huang and sophomore Rebecca Stone earning wins at one and two, respectively.

Women's Tennis Blasts Roger Williams, 8-1, On Opening Day
The Babson College women's tennis team won 14 of 16 total sets en route to a convincing 8-1 victory over host Roger Williams University in the first match of the 2009-10 women's tennis season on Tuesday afternoon. Babson opened with a sweep of doubles play, headed up by an 8-6 win by senior captains Jes Huang and Lorena Becerra at number one. Fellow senior captain Liz Sheerin teamed with sophomore Rebecca Stone on an 8-2 victory at two, and junior Monica Mercer and sophomore Ashley Lake combined on an 8-3 triumph at three. The Beavers continued to roll in singles play, winning five of six matches to clinch the overall victory.

2009-10 Season Preview: Women's Tennis
Coming off a 13-7 campaign last year, the Babson College women’s tennis team will be seeking its third straight double-digit win season in 2009-10. The Beavers will be led by senior tri-captains Jes Huang (Andover, Mass.), Liz Sheerin (Melrose, Mass.), and Lorena Becerra (Key Biscayne, Fla.), who enter their final year with a combined 66 singles victories to their credit. Huang went 10-6 last season, moving her career singles mark to 27-11. She was also outstanding in doubles play, going 6-1 in the league with partner Kali Hogan ’08 to earn NEWMAC All-Conference Second Team honors at number two. Meanwhile, Sheerin boasts 20 solo wins and Becerra another 19 as they begin their final collegiate campaign.
