WORCESTER, Mass.—The Babson College women's swimming & diving team qualified for the finals in three events and totaled 46 points on day three of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Saturday inside the Sports and Recreation Pool at WPI.
The Beavers are currently in seventh place after 13 events with 188 points, which is four ahead of eighth-place Clark and seven better than ninth-place Mount Holyoke. Seventh-ranked MIT owns a 224-point lead over second-place Wheaton.
Voce qualified for the B final in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:58.44 in the morning prelims and was three one-hundredths of a second faster in the final on the way to placing sixth overall. Demoine touched the wall with a season-best time of 1:09.94 in the 100-yard breaststroke prelims and came in fourth in the B final with a time of 1:10.16.
Demoine also teamed with junior Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.), sophomore Celine Nie (Irvine, Calif.) and first-year Stella Hu (Wellesley, Mass.) to help the Green and White finish eighth in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:53.65. Rentovich narrowly missed qualifying for the B final in the 100 breaststroke with her time of 1:11.80, while Hu was just over a half-second off the B final cut line in the 200 free clocking in with a time of 2:00.69.
Senior Maria Orive (Guatemala City, Guatemala) and first-years Beatriz Regis (Dorado, Puerto Rico) and Rachel Li (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) posted their best times of the season in the 200 free prelims, while classmates Caroline Daskalakis (Belmont, Mass.) and Andrea Hamel (Gloucester, Mass.) recorded season-best times in the 100 breaststroke and 100 butterfly, respectively.
The final day of competition begins with prelims at 10 a.m. and the finals starting at 6 p.m. on Sunday.
