WESTWOOD, Mass.—Babson College sophomore Celine Nie (Irvine, Calif.) was honored for her success in the classroom when she was named to the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Academic All-Conference team on Wednesday morning.
Nie, who collected the first academic all-conference award of her career, has put together a strong season for the Beavers, whose eight wins were just one shy of the program record set back in 1991-92. She owns the team's fastest times of the season in both the 100 backstroke (1:02.90) and 200 backstroke (2:17.59), and her time of 29.60 in the 50 backstroke against Bridgewater State in the regular season finale on February 2 ranks second on the squad.
Nie also owns the team's second fastest times in the 100 IM and 50 and 100 butterfly events entering this weekend's NEWMAC Championships.
Academic all-conference honorees must have met the following criteria: earned a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale or 4.35/5.0 scale after the 2018 fall semester, achieved second year academic status at her institution, and been a member of the varsity team for the entire season.
