CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—The Babson College women's swimming & diving team saw six different competitors post their top times of the season on day three of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championships on Saturday at MIT.
The Green and White picked up 69 points on Saturday and enter the final day of the competition in 10th place with 144 points through 13 events. The host Engineers hold a sizeable lead over second-place Wheaton.
The top individual finish of the day belonged to sophomore Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.), who reached the B final and later finished fifth with a season-best time of 1:09.87. She was also part of the Beavers' eighth-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay along with first-years Jordan Mailly (Glastonbury, Conn.), Celine Nie (Irvine, Calif.) and Nataliya Gowan (San Antonio, Texas).
Nie posted a season-best time (1:02.34) and narrowly missed the B final in the 100-yard butterfly, while three swimmers recorded their top showings of the year in the prelims of the 200-yard freestyle. Gowan touched the wall in a time of 2:04.35, junior Olivia Gilbert (Portland, Maine) was just behind her with a time of 2:06.96, and classmate Maria Orive (Guatemala City, Guatemala) posted a time of 2:10.69.
Mailly and fellow first-year Julia Ferrara (Coto de Caza, Calif.) also both participated in the 400-yard individual medley prelims.
Babson returns to the pool for the final day of competition beginning on Sunday at 10 a.m.
