Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving Sweeps Gordon in Home Finale

BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams each won 13 of 16 events and cruised to a sweep of visiting Gordon College on Saturday afternoon at Morse Pool. The Beaver men posted a 139-53 victory, while the women were 129-91 winners over the Fighting Scots in final home dual meet of the season.

Six different swimmers picked up victories in multiple events for the Babson women (3-10), highlighted by first-year Jordan Mailly's (Glastonbury, Conn.) four wins. She touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:03.56), the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.27) and the 200-yard individual medley (2:19.85), and capped the meet by claiming the 200-yard freestyle relay alongside sophomore Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.) and first-years Celine Nie (Irvine, Calif.) and Nataliya Gowan (San Antonio, Texas).

Rentovich was victorious in the 100-yard butterfly and 100 free, while Nie clocked in at 30.62 to take the 50-yard backstroke. First-year Luna Zhang (Auburndale, Mass.) won both the 50- and 100-yard breaststroke after teaming with Nie, Rentovich and Gowan to open the meet with a triumph in the 200-yard medley relay.

Junior Tessa Amoroso (Rowley, Mass.) recorded her top score of the year (232.80) on the 1-meter diving board, and classmates Olivia Gilbert (Portland, Maine) and Maria Orive (Guatemala City, Guatemala) finished first and second, respectively, in the 500 free.

In the men's half of the meet, the Beavers (7-4) recorded 10 runner-up finishes to go along with their 13 wins in a dominating performance. Seniors Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, Fla.) and Ross Ojerholm (Worcester, Mass.) finished first and second, respectively, in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle in their final home meet. Classmate Alex Grant (St. Petersburg, Fla.) won the 500 free and was second in the 1000 free, while fellow senior Jeff Cui (San Ramon, Calif.) placed second in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Sophomore Alex Damiecki (Centerville, Mass.) came in first in the 100 breast (1:10.49) and 50 butterfly (23.45) and second in the 50 back, while classmate Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.) collected victories in both the 100 butterfly and 200 IM. Senior Adam Kershner (Scottsdale, Ariz.) also enjoyed a solid day with a win in the 100 back and a third-place showing in the 50 free.

Junior Kenneth Mun (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) clocked in with a time of 28.74 to take the 50 breaststroke and first-year Kevin Luu (Malden, Mass.) posted a time of 24.91 to win the 50 back. Classmate Kaden Shover (Boca Raton, Fla.) touched the wall first in the 1000 free and fellow first-year Connor O'Brien (Tempe, Ariz.) edged sophomore Michael Cerny (Windsor, Conn.) by less than a second for a 1-2 finish in the 200 free.

Sophomore Louis NeJame (Duxbury, Mass.) was the runner-up and 50 breaststroke, while first-year Taras Polakoff (Orange County, Calif.) finished second in the 50 butterfly. The Beavers also swept the top three spots in both the 200 medley and 200 free relays.

Babson returns to action next Saturday when it travels to Roger Williams for a double dual meet against the host Hawks and Eastern Connecticut State beginning at 1 p.m.
