Meet Preview: Swimming & Diving vs. Gordon

Babson will take on Gordon for the sixth time in the last seven years and 10th time since 2006 on Saturday at Morse Pool. The Beavers have won nine consecutive men's dual meets and have defeated the Fighting Scots in seven of the last nine women's duals.

The Babson men won 13 of 14 events in a 136-100 victory over Gordon, while the Fighting Scots defeated the Babson women, 142-96, on January 9, 2016, in Babson Park. Current assistant coach An Truong '16 won three events, while senior Alex Grant touched the wall first in the 50- and 100-yard men's butterfly for the Beavers. On the women's side, Madeline Dupre '17 was victorious in the 500-yard freestyle and Paris Ekman '17 took first place in both diving events.

The Gordon women (0-5) returned from break by falling to the University of New England (149-78) and Roger Williams (157-52) in a double dula meet last Saturday. Junior Jamie Tafoya came in second in the 100 IM, while classmate Caris Lyons placed second and third, respectively, in the 200 free and 100 free. Lyons also came in third alongside junior Megan David, first-year Catherine Bee and senior Alexa Bragg in the 200 free relay…the Gordon men (0-4) are looking to bounce back from losses to Roger Williams (139-45) and UNE (82-60) last Saturday. Senior Jack Cicchelli was victorious in the 200-yard backstroke and 100 IM, while sophomore Aaron Lewis won the 500-yard freestyle and came in fifth in the 200 free for the Fighting Scots.

The Babson women (2-10) are looking to rebound from a 128-83 loss to Bentley in their home opener on Tuesday night. Sophomore Tirza Rentovich came in first in the 50-yard freestyle, first-year Jordan Mailly finished second in the 500 free and classmates Celine Nie and Julia Ferrara placed third in the 100 butterfly and 200 IM, respectively…the Babson men (6-4) enter Saturday's home finale coming off a 179-58 loss to Bentley on Tuesday. Sophomore Alex Damiecki won the 200 IM and 200 butterfly, while senior Mitchell Posk touched the wall first in the 50-yard freestyle. The duo also teamed with junior Kenneth Mun and first-year Kevin Luu to win the 400-yard medley relay. Mun (100 breaststroke) and Luu (100 backstroke) both added an individual runner-up finish.

Grant, Posk, Jeff Cui and Ross Ojerholm will all compete in their final collegiate home meet on Saturday against Gordon. The group has helped the Beavers win 22 dual meets over the last four seasons and is currently a part of three school records in the relays.

Saturday's meet marks the fifth date of competition for Babson over the last two weeks. Following the meet against Gordon, the Beavers will conclude their regular season with duals at Roger Williams next Saturday and at Bridgewater State on February 3.
