Swimming & Diving Downed by Bentley in Dual Meet

BABSON PARK, Mass.—Despite combining for 13 first and second-place finishes, the Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams were swept in a dual meet against Bentley University on Tuesday night at Morse Pool. The Beavers suffered a 128-83 loss to the Falcons in the women's half of the meet, while the men were defeated 179-58.

Leading the way for the Babson women (2-10) was sophomore Tirza Rentovich (Harrisburg, Pa.), who picked up the team's lone victory of the night with a time of 25.49 in the 50-yard freestyle. She also teamed with first-years Celine Nie (Irvine, Calif.), Jordan Mailly (Glastonbury, Conn.) and Nataliya Gowan (San Antonio, Texas) to help the Green and White place second in the 400-yard medley relay.

Mailly touched the wall with a time of 5:28.42 in the 500-yard freestyle to finish as the runner-up by less than half a second. Nie came in third in the 100-yard butterfly and Gowan placed fourth in the 100-yard backstroke. First-year Julia Ferrara (Coto de Caza, Calif.) finished third in the 200-yard IM, while junior Olivia Gilbert (Portland, Maine) in the 200 free, classmate Maria Orive (Guatemala City, Guatemala) in the 1000 free and sophomore Cassandra Collins (Branford, Conn.) in the 100 free each added a fourth-place result.

Junior Tessa Amoroso (Rowley, Mass.) came in second in both the 1- and 3-meter diving events for the Beavers.

In the men's half of the meet, Babson (6-4) was led by the duo of sophomore Alex Damiecki (Centerville, Mass.) and senior Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, Fla.). Damiecki won the 200 IM and 200-yard butterfly, Posk touched the wall first with a time of 22.08 in the 50-yard freestyle, and the duo helped win the 400-yard medley relay alongside junior Kenneth Mun (Hacienda Heights, Calif.) and first-year Kevin Luu (Malden, Mass.) with a time of 3:37.85.

Mun added a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke, Luu came in third in the 100-yard backstroke, and sophomore Jack Lucero (Huntington Beach, Calif.) finished as the runner-up in both the 500- and 1000-yard freestyle events. Senior Ross Ojerholm (Worcester, Mass.) came in third in the 100 free and fourth in the 50 free, while first-year Kaden Shover (Boca Raton, Fla.) placed third in the 200 free and fourth in the 500 free.

Sophomore Michael Cerny (Windsor, Conn.), who helped the Green and White come in second in the 400-yard free relay, finished fourth in the 100-yard butterfly. First-year Connor O'Brien (Tempe, Ariz.) placed fourth in the 1000 free, while classmate Taras Polakoff (Orange County, Calif.) touched the wall fourth in the 100 back.

Babson, which has competed in four times in the last nine days, will return to Morse Pool for its home finale against Gordon on Saturday at 1 p.m.
