Swimming & Diving Announces 2016-17 Award Winners

BABSON PARK, Mass.—The Babson College men's and women's swimming & diving teams capped the 2016-17 campaign with their annual awards banquet earlier this month. First-year head coach Kristy Martin and her staff presented four awards in addition to honoring their six seniors and announcing next year's captains.

The awards were highlighted by the selection of first-year Alex Damiecki (Centerville, Mass.) and senior Paris Ekman (Fargo, N.D.) as the male and female Most Valuable Swimmer or Diver Award. Ekman also was the recipient of the women's Scholar-Athlete Award, while junior Ross Ojerholm (Worcester, Mass.) was tabbed as the men's Scholar-Athlete Award winner.

Junior Mitchell Posk (Boynton Beach, Fla.) was presented with the William H. Sullivan Award, which is given annually to a sophomore, junior or senior swimmer or diver that exhibits natural leadership, great sportsmanship and motivation, and a deep devotion and caring towards others. Sophomores Adam Kershner (Scottsdale, Ariz.) and Maria Orive (Guatemala City, Guatemala) were recognized as the program's male and female most improved swimmers.

Along with the awards, the program celebrated the accomplishments of seniors Ekman, Madeline Dupre (Fiskdale, Mass.), Mallory Ham (Norwalk, Conn.), Anton Pronichenko (Palisades, Calif.), Kevin Shivers (Mercersburg, Pa.) and Catherine Vedovino (Pompton Plains, N.J.). Additionally, Ojerholm, Posk and junior Alex Grant (St. Petersburg, Fla.) were announced as captains for the Beavers in 2017-18.
