A former high school coach and administrator, Dave Canan is
currently in his 11th year as head coach of the Babson softball
team with a career record of 239-166-1 (.590). During his ten-year
tenure, he has resurrected a program that won just seven games in
1999, leading the Beavers
to 228 victories over the past nine years, including a stellar
167-96-1 record over the last six seasons. In addition, he
guided the program to its first-ever ECAC Tournament berth in 2002,
its first NEWMAC Championship and NCAA Tournament berth 2005, and
its second straight conference title and NCAA Tournament bid in
2006. As a result, Canan was named the NEWMAC Coach of the Year
following the 2006 season.
A graduate of Boston State College and Northeastern University, Canan taught and coached softball and basketball at Masconomet Regional High School for almost 20 years before taking over as athletics director at Newburyport High School in 1994. While at Newburyport, Canan also coached softball for one season, leading the Clippers to a Cape Ann League title and a berth in the Division II state tournament.
In addition to his softball duties, Canan also serves as an
assistant coach of Babson's highly successful women's basketball
team during the winter. He currently resides in North Reading,
Massachusetts.

Paul Elliott is currently in his ninth season as a pitching/assistant coach for the Babson softball program. During his tenure, the Beavers have enjoyed unprecedented success, winning the first two NEWMAC Championships in team history and hosting a pair of NCAA New England Regional Tournaments. Individually, Elliott's pitching staffs have produced nine All-Conference honorees, seven All-New England award winners, and one All-America selection.
Prior to coming to Babson, Elliott spent three years as a pitching coach at Wheaton College, where he helped guide the Lyons to two NEWMAC titles and three NCAA Regional appearances. Coming into the 2010 season, his overall record as an assistant coach is a sparkling 214-127.
Elliott owns and operates the Strike Zone Training Facility in
Mansfield, Massachusetts, where he is a highly-respected pitching,
catching, and hitting instructor. Boasting over 25 years of
coaching experience and 30 years of playing experience, he has also
served as a coach/clinician for the American Softball Association
and an ASA/NSA/Pony Junior Olympic coach.

A 2007 graduate of Babson, Lazar is in her first season as
assistant coach for a program that she helped guide to its most
successful stretch ever. During her four years at Babson Park, the
Beavers posted an incredible 156-54-1 mark while winning
back-to-back NEWMAC Championships and hosting the NCAA Division III
Tournament New England Regional in 2005 and 2006. A career .302
hitter, Lazar ranks second on Babson's career lists in doubles (41)
and RBIs (100) while also ranking among the top 10 in hits, home
runs, triples, runs, total bases, and stolen bases. A NEWMAC
All-Conference selection and Honorable Mention All-New England
honoree in 2007, Lazar currently works as a Product Marketing
Manager at EMC Corporation.

Shayne Lotito enters her first season as an assistant coach for the Babson softball program.
Lotito came to Babson from nearby Boston University, where she also enjoyed a standout career. She graduated in 2009 as the Terriers' all-time leader in at-bats (712), stolen bases (93), and runs (150) while ranking fourth in career average (.325) and fifth in hits (168). Also the program's single-season record holder for hits and stolen bases, she was a four-time America-East All-Conference selection, a First Team All-Region honoree once, and a National Strength and Conditioning Association All-American.
In addition to coaching, Lotito is currently a member of the
StormUSA Women's Major Team in Corona, California.
