Canan, Babson Softball Earn NFCA Regional Coaching Staff of the Year Honors

LOUISVILLE, Ky.—After leading his program to the NCAA Tournament Super Regionals last month, Dave Canan and the Babson College softball program was awarded with National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) New England Region Coaching Staff of the Year honors on Monday.

Canan and assistant coaches Michelle Littlefield, Jenna Lazar, Shannon Torosian and Amber White were recognized after leading the Beavers to an overall record of 33-16. The Green and White, which finished 25th in the final NFCA national poll, captured its first New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament championship since 2006 by winning three straight elimination games.

The Green and White won three more elimination games, which included a pair of come-from-behind victories against Rowan, to claim the Babson Park Regional before falling to nationally-ranked Williams, 2-1, in a best-of-three super regional series on May 19-20.

The regional coach of the year honor is the first for Canan, who has led the program to at least 25 victories on eight occasions going back to 2004. Overall, Canan has amassed 446 victories, three NEWMAC Tournament titles, and four NCAA Tournament appearances in 18 seasons at Babson.

The Beavers' coaching staff is one of eight Division III programs eligible to selected as the NFCA National Coaching Staff of the Year when it is announced on June 12.
