Moore, Mares Earn NEWMAC All-Conference Softball Honors

BOSTON—Fresh off its first conference tournament championship since 2006, Babson College senior Leslie Moore (Atkinson, N.H.) and sophomore Josephine Mares (Houston, Texas) collected All-New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) honors on Monday.

A four-year starter for the Beavers, Moore earned the first all-league award of her career after batting .346 with 10 extra-base hits, 20 runs scored and 20 runs batted in over 39 games this spring. She set new career highs in average, on-base percentage (.419), walks (14) and stolen bases (6), and ranks second on the team with 41 hits and 56 total bases. Additionally, Moore is tied for the team lead with 13 multi-hit games on the year.

Mares earned the first All-NEWMAC award of her career after hitting .369 with seven doubles, three triples, 20 runs scored and 12 RBI in 36 games in the lead-off spot. She leads the squadin average, on-base percentage (.435) and triples, is tied for the team lead in multi-hit games (13), and is tied for second on the club in hits (41) and runs scored. Since March 29, a stretch of 26 games, Mares is batting .414 with a .469 on-base percentage, nine extra-base hits and 15 runs scored.

Babson (28-13) won three straight elimination games to capture the league tournament championship on Saturday, and will find out where it's headed for the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament on Monday at 1 p.m.
